Re: North Korea Declares MARTIAL LAW
This is ominous!

Martial Law is one thing, but to put your armed forces on war alert is another.

Is North Korea preparing for retaliation or first strike.

Most understand how badly the North wants to reunite the south back into one communist nation.

Knowing North Korea and Iran are working together, they both may act simultaneously to achieve greater chances of success.

Iran targets Israel and North Korea targets South Korea.

This is six days old.

"Threatening to test launch ballistic missiles or other weapons will "in the end will do nothing ... other than jeopardize the hope for peace," in the Asia-Pacific region, Panetta added.

Pacific Command has intelligence and surveillance assets in place to monitor the launch, should Pyongyang follow through with the weapons drill, Adm. Samuel Lockear said last year. The four-star admiral declined to go into specifics regarding what U.S. assets were in place within the region to track the proposed test launch. "

"For American watchers of the North Korean regime, there was something particularly noteworthy about this weekend’s news that Kim Jong Eun met with other officials “to take substantial and high-profile important state measures” – code words for detonating a nuclear explosive. – WSJ’s Korea Real Time"

Jong-un issues a martial law order
한·미 양국 '초비상'… 北, 결국 사고 칠 듯 Jan 31,2013

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un issued a secret order to “complete preparations for a nuclear weapons test between Tuesday and yesterday” and carry it out sometime soon, a source told the JoongAng Ilbo.

Kim also reportedly said, “The country will be under martial law starting from midnight Jan. 29 and all the frontline and central units should be ready for a war,” the source said.

The North’s state media reported Sunday that Kim convened an emergency meeting with top defense and security officials on Saturday. It said Kim made a stern command to take “effective, high-profile state measures” and “assigned specific tasks” to officials. The measures were sparked by new sanctions unanimously passed by the United Nations Security Council on North Korean entities and individuals, including travel bans and asset freezes, the media said. The reports boosted speculation that Kim is preparing a third nuclear weapons test.

With the Clintons leaving the administration all hell might break loose..

For some reason the North Koreans love the Clintons..

Yeah, I saw the article too. The question is, at exactly what point would such an act be seen not as a test, but as an actual attack? How close would they let it get as well?

The other thing is that the previous administrations did very little either, their first nuclear test was in 2006.

Re: North Korea Declares MARTIAL LAW
South Korea on heightened alert status:
"South Korean government preparing to respond to NK nuclear test

North Korea is also stepping up efforts to preserve internal unity and maintain order among its people to brace for the military tension that the nuclear test will cause. In a meeting of cell secretaries of the North Korean Workers’ Party, which was held in Pyongyang on Jan. 28-29, party members and workers were instructed to prepare to be mobilized for battle.

“It seems that North Korea has strengthened its level of military readiness in order to bring its people to a high level of alertness,” said Kim Min-seok, spokesperson for South Korea’s Ministry of National Defense.

Nevertheless, no unusual movements have as yet been detected in the North Korean military. “So far, we have not seen any peculiar movements in the North Korean armed forces,” a ROK military source said. “There were no such movements at the time of the first or second military test, either.”

Believing that a North Korean nuclear test could take place at any time, ROK forces are remaining alert. The army is operating a task force with the Korea Meteorological Administration and earthquake observation stations to track signs of the North’s preparations and to detect whether a test has occurred. It is also reinforcing the joint monitoring system it operates with the US."

They are declaring martial law because they intend to test fire a missile in the direction of the United States...

Which under normal circumstances might elicit a response but considering who is running things now it's unlikely the USA will do a damn thing..

Re: North Korea Declares MARTIAL LAW
1 hour old from the Economist:
[link to www.economist.com]

"But Mr Zhu also says China will not want to “corner” North Korea. At a conference in Seoul in December, Teng Jianqun, of the China Institute of International Studies in Beijing, said there were three views about policy on North Korea: that it is a troublemaker which China should abandon and treat as a security problem; that it is nothing to do with China and should be left alone; and that it is an old ally deserving of China’s full support.

Yet the consensus is that China’s prime interest is stability. The survival of the Kim dynasty ruling North Korea now seems bound up with its nuclear programme. So China may think that stepping up efforts to shut that down would not be in its interest. Certainly many Chinese scholars and, presumably, officials feel exasperated with North Korea and rather embarrassed by its antics. But China fears that collapse of the regime might lead to unrest, refugees crossing into China and the presence of American forces on the other side of China’s own borders. That would be even worse.

Plenty of voices still call for the continued support of the regime. Mr Teng recalled that “old diplomats” complained fiercely when China condemned North Korea’s nuclear tests in 2006 and 2009. And Tang Ge, a commentator whose blogpost is translated on sinonk.com, a website, thunders against those who argue that North Korea no longer matters to China as a “strategic buffer” between it and the American troops in South Korea. On the contrary, he claims, supporting North Korea is a “small-cost big-benefit” activity."

1 John 1–3._ 1Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God.
