Come see live video of Jupiter! 1/31/2013 *Thanks for coming!*
Sorry about the clouds the other night. The front has pushed through and the weather looks great so I'm going to try this again. Tonight we'll observe Jupiter up-close and personal. The webcast will be on here:
[link to www.nightskiesnetwork.com]
You can click "View as Guest" to view the webcast without registering. Registration is free though and is required if you wish to participate in chat. My channel name on night skies network is "NGCHunter." I'll post here when the webcast is up and running, I expect it to be ready by about 8pm eastern.

Correction, I will try to get it up and running by 7:45pm eastern. Jupiter's moon Io will start to transit the planet by about 8pm. The great red spot will also be visible. Later in the evening at about 9:10pm Io's shadow will start to transit across Jupiter as well. It should make for a very pretty sight.

Size of the scope doesn't matter for Sirius when it's properly exposed; it's just a point-like light source (it's far too small to resolve regardless of whether you have a giant telescope like the GLP main scope or a moderately sized scope like mine). I can over-expose it too, it just shows the optical reflections that happen with my scope when a point-like light source is over-exposed.
siriusbright
The reflections are meaningless, they're specific to the optical train being used and have nothing to do with the star itself or anything in space.

Thanks for the info! I was not aware of that. I remember seeing some interesting photos in the past and thought it was a easy with a good telescope to see. The 2ed photo is much better then your first one. (light exposure)

Actually the second photo is technically far worse. The first is what Sirius actually looks like with a proper exposure. The second is just a blinding over-exposure filled with optical reflections from inside the telescope.

Is that Io to the lower left side of Jupiter?

I can't watch most youtube videos without pauses either. It will play a few seconds and then pause for 30-60 seconds while it loads some more. Can't get dsl or cable where I live. Satellite is the only option. It sucks. When it rains the internet goes out. Hell, if a dark cloud passes over it will go out....lol.
