Remember that movie producers hire people to be ‘continuity directors’. Even with a set script all kinds of mistakes can be made that are not seen at the time but stand out after movie is released. This can be anything from a person on right mysteriously ending up on left in next shot or something out of logical sequence.

Continuity direction is not an easy job. For years Time Magazine had two basic types of positions, writers and researchers. To be a researcher was both tough and weird. You were to assume everything was wrong. Take, “Joe walked from 10th street to 22nd street.” Every conceivable and non-obvious part of that statement would be assumed to be wrong until proven so. Was it really Joe? Did he really start walking from between 10th and 11th street? Was he not walking at all but standing on a skate board just swinging his arms? And on and on and on. The silliest things had to be proved as much as possible ten ways to the middle. It is the same with continuity direction.

Threads such as these are super important. Many said it was ‘obvious’ that parts of the fire house helicopter shots were scripted as you could see the people going in one side of the building and then out the others. It was not ‘obvious’ to me. It was only obvious after it was pointed out.
