I'll raise the too Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1444375 What you really need to ask is what do they have to lose? The most dangerous man is the one with nothing left to lose. They have a very young, immature new leader , who knows what kind of stupidity he's capable of. You have to ask, what do they have to gain?...they have enough intel agents to know how far to go and NOT to go |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 4614718 Greece 01/31/2013 09:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thanks.that's correct. They also have the fourth largest army in the word. A few facts I found. The area of North Korea, or DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea), is approximately 74898 square miles (or 120538 square km) making it the 99th largest country in the world to date ( as of 2012). The country shares a long northern border with its closest political ally, China, spanning 880 miles; and a southern border with South Korea, with whom it has actually been at war with since 1950. However, the two countries have been in a state of 'ceasefire' for decades, with only minor border skirmishes disturbing the peace in more recent times. North Korea's geography There are a number of interesting facts that pertain to North Korea's geography, such as: Despite being the 99th largest country in the world, North Korea's total land area is actually similar to that of the US state of Mississippi The country has a 1550 mile coastline, looking out onto both the Sea of Japan (to the east) and the Yellow Sea (to the west) Its highest point is a volcanic mountain on the border between China and North Korea named Baekdu San. The volcano is known to explode every 100 years and is considered a sacred mountain and the legendary home of Korea's ancestral origin. What do we know about North Korea? North Korea is considered a reclusive state for the tight grip that its ruling party keeps on information coming in and out of the country. The country aspires to be fully self-reliant and is essentially cut off from the rest of the world in terms of trade, travel and communication. A staggering 90% of its economy is controlled by the government, and almost all of the country's domestic product is manufactured by state-owned industries. Despite this communication barrier, there are some facts that we do know about North Korea, for example: The only dogs in the capital city, Pyongyang, are found in the zoo. This is in an attempt to preserve the cleanliness of the city. Foreign visitors are assigned state 'guides' that they are not allowed to travel around the country without. North Korea has the fourth largest army in the world, with over 1.2 million serving personnel In an effort to save electricity, traffic lights are often replaced by female 'traffic directors' - who are reportedly hand-picked for their good looks [link to www.blurtit.com] |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 33391479 Canada 01/31/2013 09:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sounds to me like their talking about more than just a test or a satellite. Seems like they're talking actual acts of war against the U.S Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4614718 Song Kyong Hak, an officer of the Korean People's Army, told KCNA: "We, servicepersons, are now filled with the fixed will to annihilate at once the hostile forces infringing upon the sovereignty of the country. The powerful striking means of the Paektusan revolutionary army have already been in full readiness to shower fire of merciless punishment on the disgusting den of evils and show what a real war is like." O Myong Bok, a worker at the Pyongyang Electric Cable Factory 326, said: "Our army and people do never allow the nation's sovereignty and the supreme interests of the country to be violated. Sovereignty of each country and nation is not something presented or defended by others. What can ensure their sovereignty and dignity is only the military strength for independence and justice built up by their own efforts." Ri Myong Hwan, a worker at the Hukryong Coal Mine, said: "Peace can never be expected on this planet as long as the U.S., the empire of evil, remains intact. [link to www.kcna.co.jp] [link to www.kcna.co.jp] The present situation proves that physical counteraction, not words, should be taken to settle accounts with the U.S. which regards jungle law as the rule of its survival. The situation also shows the iron truth that one's sovereignty should be protected by one's own efforts. Hostile forces should clearly know that they can not estimate the might of the DPRK, dignified with independence and ever-victorious with Songun, with the Western view on value or the imperialists' way of calculation. The army and people of the DPRK do not make an empty word. The world will be made to clearly see how the Koreans, who are convinced of the justness of their cause, punish hostile forces of all stripes and emerge as a final victor in their just path for defending sovereignty. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 33526370 Greece 02/02/2013 04:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | From their latest article. DPRK People Vow to Win in Face-off with U.S. "Any sanctions do not work on the DPRK. The tightened 'sanctions' against the DPRK will only give vent to surging indignation of its people. The U.S.-led hostile forces should not run amuck, mindful that the KPA is in full readiness to fight a sacred war for justice. This year will mark the 60th anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the Fatherland Liberation War (July 27, 1953). The KPA will deal a telling blow to the U.S. imperialists so that they dare not provoke the DPRK any longer, and thus adorn the anniversary with another victory in the showdown with them." Ju Ki Chol, a worker of the Chollima Steel Complex, said: "We, workers, are thirsting for revenge on the U.S. seeking to disarm the DPRK and overthrow its social system. We have a proud history of victory in the showdown with the U.S. In the 1950s the young DPRK won an all-out war with the U.S., which was boasting of being 'the strongest' in the world. Today the DPRK has turned into a power in space science and there is nothing to be afraid of. The military might of Songun Korea should be displayed to them to significantly mark the 60th anniversary of the victory in the war." [link to www.kcna.co.jp] |

I know the US has some 20 odd thousand troops stationed inside South Korea and massive air support but is it enough to hold off a million men and tanks? The only way NK could nuke the South would be by land or from the belly of a bomber, I wouldn't place my bets on their missiles just yet. I suppose troops and air power could respond from Japan but man would this be a mess. |
