I have looked forward to departure day for decades... as when I was younger I knew this was a cesspool prison and peeked behind the curtain and knew there was so much better.


My trick when younger was to take time off from the system and enjoy while I was young.
I was never well off, never rich, but I did experience a type of freedom and richness of experiences while still vital and healthy that most never knew, and will never know.

This probably seems silly, but I would like you to watch the wonderful movie Harold & Maude. If you've already seen it, you should watch it again.
I recommend it because it's wickedly funny, sincere, appropriate to what you're talking about and because it will remind you of the tremendous and beautiful potential in all of us no matter the age.
I know there are compensations that must be made, but there is a path for you that doesn't include the words "I don't like being old.."
I'm younger than you (39), but have spent the last 25 years sick with brain dysfunctions, auto-immune diseases and various other crap including losing all traces of the beautiful woman i once was. It's very difficult to be both vain and undeniably ugly!
I just began feeling better last year. So I'm starting my young time old, haggard and fatigued, but fucking determined to make myself into a worthwhile human being and find joy in the process.

Life includes many stages. Advanced age has it's own set of advantages and challenges, but it's an adventure--just like all the other stages. It'd be a shame to miss this one because you want to return to an earlier completed stage. I'm older than you. I love my life and am grateful daily that I'm still here. At 62 you're just starting out, and I hope you realize how lucky you are to have gotten this far and gained the benefit of mature perspective.

Yes, you may not move as quickly as you once did and you may even grunt without knowing it when retreiving something from the floor. Hell, you might wake in the morn with more aches and pains than you thought you had the night before. That said, it is hoped these minor inconveniences have been compensated with increased understanding of the simple things of daily living to the most profound matters of the human heart. It is hoped your age and experience allow you to view others with insight and gentle eyes. And more than these, that your 62 years have given you wisdom.

If these aren't enough, consider the tale of the old bull and the young bull.

One day a youg bull and an old bull topped a hill and looked down at a green pasture filled with cows lazily grazing in the valley below.

The young bull said, "Let's run down there and fuck a few of those cows."

The old bull said, "Let's walk down there and fuck them all."

The wisdom of age and experience.

All good things to you, OP. Always hope on the horizen (and maybe a few cows as well.....not that I'm condoning animal husbandry lest any DHS agents are lurking - air-shaggers, the lot of them).
