Message Subject Jesus first miracle-water into wine {part two}

The most interesting part of this passage to me is that after identifying the problem to Jesus, Mary didn't say another word to Him. She didn't tell Him what to do or how to do it or when to do it. She was, it would appear, quite content over whatever outcome there would be.

Quite different than what we do at times.

(And since I seriously doubt that Jesus ran around the house turning water into wine for the fun of it, I suspect Mary was just as astonished at the miracle as everyone else.)

the account teaches us much about Jesus, and yet, how profound that Jesus showed that kind of balance, he could have said "it is time for grape juice and water people- you have had too much to drink"

we will name the vineyard Balanced Barrel

This is one of my favorite passages. Some real interesting details, if you look into it.

One, just the fact they ran out of wine- either the father of the bride really underestimated the amount he needed, or a bunch of people showed up that weren't accounted for. Perhaps they invited Jesus and his mom, but not the apostles? Maybe the first case of wedding crashing in recorded history. lol.

Anyway...couple others...someone either told Mary or she saw it herself.. and she goes to Jesus not asking for more wine.. just telling the Lord the problem.

Jesus saying 'My hour has not come' is sort of telling Mary do you realize what you're asking, mother? Once I do 'this' my hour starts... ending with his crucifixtion.

We don't know what Mary knew or not, but we do know all the miracles that happened in her life she kept 'in her heart'. She knew Jesus had a divine purpose- so in essence when she says 'whatsoever he says to you, then do it' is perhaps telling subtly telling Jesus - perhaps it's time to leave my basement and begin 'your hour'. Incidentally, these are the last words Mary speaks in scripture- do what Jesus tells you.

Now, what Jesus does next is also interesting. Not one or two with water vessles- which would have been a miracle anyways-- but SIX vessles he asks to have filled with water- and turns into wine.

Perhaps this is the one and only miracle he does for his benefit as well. Knowing there will be no turning back now-- might as well enjoy the wedding celebration.

that was some insightful observations about that account.

When Jesus mother said; "they have no wine", and Jesus replied; "what have I to do with you with you?"...some have viewed him as being disrespectful to Mary, which, of course was not the case. The point he was making was, as God's appointed King, he was not to be directed in his activity by family or friends. So Mary wisely left the matter in Jesus hands.

None the less, this occasion provided an opportunity for Jesus to prevent the reproach that would rest on the Groom if the wine ran out, displaying his quality of compassion.

it also served to strengthen his newly chosen disciples faith. {they had been invited to the wedding as well}

it also showed the generosity of Jesus by filling, not one or two, but SIX stone water jars with wine! and the fact that it was of the highest quality...well......
