Applebee’s fires waitress who posted receipt from pastor complaining about auto-tip

What the fuck is it with you Americans and tipping? Either come clean with how much you pay your customer service staff or shut the fuck up.

I'm on the pastor's side. I would not react well if there was a built in charge for a voluntary payment.

Remind me and all other employers never to employ you. Your a walking lawsuit with that attitude. How would you feel if it was your business and one of your employees done that, then you got sued for every penny you have. Business gone, house gone, family on the street, well done.

We in the UK dont have a tipping culture, only if we think we have had good service will we tip. I wouldnt even eat in a place that had the nerve to auto put it on, I would get up an not pay a penny if they did.

Bet the pastor used it the receipt as an church expense!
And the pastor probably drives a car registered as a church vehicle!

Cheaten in the name of God, we all do it!

Sorry, wait-staff at restaurants do not deserve more than 5% of the before tax total on the bill.

More than likely a waiter has more than a single table for an entire hour. (And if they don't that's not my problem).

A 5% tip puts them more than on-par with minimum wage per an hour.

If they want more than minimum wage, they need to get some ambition and go to a different industry.

Sorry, that is the hard truth.

One day the site is all about how the capitalist system and hard work/ambition pays off regardless of the wage.

The next day the site cries about low tipping in the free market.

I am confused.

Paying 15-18% of my total to someone who does nothing more than bring food and pour water is fucking stupid.

Now, I am more interested in the idea of tipping the cooks.

You should give careful consideration before returning to a restaurant where you have left a 5% tip. Enjoy your meal.

Fact is, in most restaurants even first time line cooks make more than minimum wage. They do okay.

i don't tend to agree i completly agree they can hide too much $$$ in these things you better belive ther is alwys some back slaping and favors done.. i have no idea why people do not understand a church is full of people. no saints just crabby humans putting on a show. there are as many good and noble people who don't attend any chuch and give to their community. as a matter a fact many chuch groups are stingy with helping their surrounding community if you are not a member. blow hards most of them

The patron should have been notified up front and agree to the 18 % prior to service. I certainly like to know when I am paying for something. If this is a restaurant policy then that is what it is. If she didn't want to pay it, I guess that is her choice. Maybe the service was horrible.

I understand the frustration of the waitress, but that is her job and whatever someone wishes to give her is what she has to accept. It is just the nature of the business. The Pastor broke the first commandment by doing what she did. The waitress violated the privacy of the Pastor. Whether or not it is a criminal act, I don't know.

Both of them would have been better off just letting it go. They are both personally responsible for ruining this portion of their life. Now I see a bunch of other people getting wrapped up in their little moment, as if we all don't have enough of our own stuff going on.

A boycott of Applebees won't hurt Applebees. They will just lay off more employees. Let's not hurt more in this fiasco. If you don't want to go to Applebees, don't go for the reason I don't go. The food sucks, plain and simple.

I've worked in restaurants most of my working life. I was married to a Sous Chef for 5 years of well known fine dining steak house.. That being said, I've almost never seen a case where the 18% gratuity wasn't written somewhere on the menu, clear as day. It's SOP that parties of more than 8 people are charged the 18%.

I can't say anything about this woman that hasn't been pointed out already. What kills me is that most people don't realize their tip doesn't go to only the waitress. A lot of places require the server to tip out a percentage of their tips for the host, bus boys, and sometimes the bartender. She fucked more than just the waitress, when her problem should have been taken up on the corporate level. When you ring in people's meals, you ring it in by seat number, which is how food runners know who gets what when they bring your food and drinks out. Once 8 seats have food rung in, the 18% gets put on by the computer, not the server.

It was a $7 tip, wasn't it? Fuck her. Christians are their own worst enemy. "I can be an asshole, as long as it's in the name of GOD!"

Stay home. Eat at McDonald's. You don't deserve a nice meal with good service. I've worked in and ran restaurants. It's hard work plus you have to put up with assholes like YOU. I always tip 20% unless the service really sucks.

Also, the server didn't post the receipt, her co-worker did and they were both fired. Someone posted that the pastor probably charged the lunch to the church's expense acct. as a "meeting" of some sort, I agree that's probably true.

Pastor should have just sucked it up and let it go instead of being all high and mighty about her giving 10% to God. I do agree that her personal info. should not have been posted on-line but don't feel badly that she is embarrassed.
