For your viewing pleasure. Penn and Teller Bullshit: The Good Old Days

While i too love to remember the good old days. The fact is things weren't that great. Not to mention, those are pictures when someone broke out a camera and more so 'back then' you fucking put a smile on your face when a camera appeared. People tend to not take pictures when things are going back especially years back then.

And if you had it so perfect how did you manage to fuck it up so badly for your children? Or do you want to talk about how the younger generation won't take responsibility while simultaneously not take responsibility for raising complete fuck-ups?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3707776

This. Life has always been hard as fuck and will continue to be hard.

You exchange old problems for new problems each passing generation.

It always remained balanced. The real issue is corruption which is leading us into blind slavery, we were always slaves but now were about to be literal slaves.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27811313

You should know that at least in American history, since so many ethnic groups came here, that the meaning of "white" dramatically changed over time. Irish came and were looked down up, as did Italians, Greeks, Spanish, Germans, Swedes and all had trouble with being accepted as "white".

So your idea from an American perspective is kind of silly.

America has never been "white. It was originally full of Native American First People who made up thousands of seperate tribes and Mestizos from South American who came up through Central America and into Mexico and Texas and what is now the American Southwest.

Then the Spanish came and the French, bring all of their blends of culture from Almohads from North Africa, Corsicans, Aragorn, Castillian, etc. The English when they came, were a mix of many tribes of Celts, Jutes, Britons, Saxons invaders from Norway, Normans from France and Italy. And on and on.

There is no "white". It makes zero sense from an intellectual perspective. It's a fallacy. It's impossible to define.

If some French person moved to the Middle East and became a "poulain" in the medieval period, and their ancestors lived on Cypress, then what would you call them? They're all mixed up as all people are mixed up. The whole notion is absurd.

You can do that with any nation practically, even the most zenophobic Japanese are a mix of Koreans, Chinese, Ainu, and present day Japanese.

If you think things weren't around then, just think of the fact that "Gomer Pyle" just married his gay partner of 38 years.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33337660

Yeah, we all knew this was around then, but we didn't make a bloody song and dance about it. We just accepted it and left people to live the same as everyone else - they didn't have to go over the top about it; it just was.

Grew up in the 1930s. Walked a MILE and BACK to buy a farm worker a pack of Luckies; $17. Why ? Because he asked me to. I got a penny from the change and it bought me 20 good sized firecrackers, all the way from CHINA !

Went barefoot a lot, but once you stepped on a bee in the grass, you knew that it was wiser to wear your shoes. Everyone wore their older brothers/sisters clothes, so there was NO teasing about whose clothes you wore. Mom had a rag bag, where any material not thoroughly worn out/through was saved for patching our (two boys) clothes, as well as a button box.

AND, there was no school bus to pick you up. You WALKED to school, a mile away. My dad walked several miles, even on top of stone wall fences, when the snow was too deep.

I still spend part of the summer barefoot today. Sadly, my feet are not as strong as they were when I was a child, when I could run barefoot over gravel. Today I stick to softer soil on warm days. I live on a small family farm, so I can get away with it. hayseed

The difference between then and now is that back then those children were not forced into sexuality they were allowed to be innocent. Also, the ones who grew up from 1890 thru 1928 got to play real war not the virtual make believe gamer bs. And once they got forced to play the real their innocence was shot to hell.

I grew up in a rural farm community in the sixties. Two radio stations. Three TV stations. Stores closed at six and on Sunday. My childhood was filled with funerals of farmers and kids being pulled into tractor PTOs, crushed in hay barns, kicked by cows, falling off horses, electrocution by faulty wiring, etc. most of the adults i knew had some kind of injury, dismemberment , brain injury....people aged quickly and grew hardened and wizened. there was a high incident of incest, some of it generational. The work was very hard, no time for anything else really. I was under constant pressure to conform to the dominant Christian religion. It felt like communism to me.

Those pics look great, I admit. Especially to folks that grew up in cities. I prefer this present age. I will be disappointed if America goes back to its fundamental roots. It's Sharia Law days.

We could not run around barefoot, or we would get the "ground itch"

Ah, the good old days...

[link to docsouth.unc.edu]

About one-third of the people of North Carolina are suffering with Hookworm disease and consider their trouble due to some other disease. Hookworm disease frequently causes headache, dizziness, shortness of breath, paleness, easily tired out in feet and legs, poor appetite for breakfast, indigestion, heartburn, stunted growth, and poor progress in school work on account of poor memory. If you have had ground itch or dew poison you should be examined, as this is the first sign of the disease. It takes about one drop of blood daily to feed each worm

Canada looks like it has less hookworm.
