Given the same situation I think I would prefer not to know as well.

After all, there would be bugger all I could do about it.

Fuck that I want to hang out in space until the very last moment maybe do some freaking science, maybe I'll want to strip naked and jump out the hatch, maybe I'll sit there and pray they figure out how to send more oxygen WTF that was some cowardly shit right there.

Why willingly send 1 - 2 billion dollars worth of tax-payer funded space shuttle to a fiery death? I'd rather die in orbit and have my body hopefully salvaged at a later date, along with the repaired shuttle. What a waste.

That was pretty shitty. They should have told them. I would have rather gone into a situation like that prepared for the possible outcome rather than have it come as a surprise. .

A former NASA flight director, Wayne Hale, had on his blog (until it was later removed) that the line of thinking was that 7 funerals would be cheaper than trying to put together a rescue mission.

Bunch of sociopaths.

That doesn't bother me so much. A rescue mission would take months to prepare. They'd be dead before it ever happened anyway.

The shitty part is NASA robbing those people of a chance to have a final conversation with their wives or to write their kids a letter and stuff it in something that might survive the crash. That was a shitty thing to do.
