Bible Says Current Civilization Will Last 6000 Years

My problem with this whole "The Earth is 6000 years old" stuff and the belief in the tribulation, rapture, etc. is that it leads people into complacency.
If the "End" is still several years (or even 200 years) off, and Jesus is going to come and save the believers and fix everything, there is no need to take any responsibility for the state that our world is in, right? We can just sit back and let Jesus do everything.
It reminds me of the whole "saved" thing. It doesn't seem to matter how much of a sinner you are, but if you just accept Jesus as your lord and savior, everything's A-OK.
Well, I do believe in Jesus, but I also believe in science and using the reasoning faculties that God gave us. I believe in taking care of Mother Earth and all it's creatures and habitats, not just expecting Jesus to fix everything.
Also, I don't believe we have several years. Many, many signs point to 2013 or 2014 being very memorable, shall we say. My higher self has confirmed this.
But if you think that you don't need to do anything to prepare because Jesus is going to save you because that's what your preacher told you, well, I feel sorry for you. :(

And I totally respect your right to think what you wish...it just grieves me that when the earth changes come, so many won't be prepared. And this stuff isn't helping. You are right, for these ones will sit their holding their bible, expecting Jesus to rapture them out of the shit and will likely loose their current incarnation, because surviving these things is about preparation and knowing the God with. It means besides some preparation where possible before hand that ones must know how to "hear" the advice of the Father and various guides around one, so that one might know what to do. These might help you see a safer place, or guide you in some other way. And it will go a long ways in soul growth to help the others and going around preaching Jesus saves in these conditions will not help anyway. Being able to remain in relaxed meditation so you can hear the inner advice will go a long way. The belief that one is saved from the coming earth changes by believing on a person named Jesus who will rapture the christians out of here is a disastrous teaching.
