A fundamental right to procreate?
On Wednesday, Lorain County Probate Judge James T. Walther ordered the unemployed Taylor to pay nearly $100,000 in child support and banned him from having more children for five years unless he can show the court he can support the ones he already has. Otherwise, another child will earn him a year in jail.

And in an interview, Walther said he might order other deadbeat dads who owe significant amounts of child support to face the same punishment as part of their probation. Taylor is "not the worst of the worst," Walther said. "He's the first of the worst."

How did we get to this point, where a judge has to insist that a grown man curtail procreation so that his kids don't end up more impoverished than they are already? Doesn't that seem like common sense?

Only works when the population is way way below 1 billion on a planet with finite space and finite resources.

Exponential growth wasn't understood back then.

People should practice more though :) But not actually multiply.

We are getting too inbred, and there are too many of us now anyways. Cancer, allergies, deformations, stupidity, all signs that we are a little too closely related for mother nature.

Blacks shouldn't breed. It's why our government pays to abort 80% of their pregnancies. It'd be different if they worked and could handle normal life.

If you can't feed 'em don't breed 'em. People should be able to independently support their children through their own earnings. Used to be that way, note the demographic shifts over the last 30 years or so. As Archie Bunker said "Didn't need no welfare state".

Idiocracy, only dumb ass people procreate beyond their means. We're being overrun by these.
Banned as usual.

“It is far easier to be a weakling than to be a Real Man. Were the Earth less harsh or the circumstances of life less austere, man would destroy himself before the shrine of the languid goddess. Only Real Men can with safety destroy the tangled forests and wilderness of Earth and make from them gardens, but will those who inherit the gardens be Real Men? The law decrees that they must be, or the wilderness will reclaim its own.”

Karma needs to hit this idiot hard. Hopefully he will be struck by lightening or have an auto accident and find himself sterile.

This isn't a case of a couple that lost their jobs or a man who got a single woman pregnant. This is a worthless chunk of human flesh who goes around getting women pregnant, and then does nothing to help raise those babies.

The judge should have a pamphlet created that lists the names names and ages of all his children, and show that he is not providing for them. He should be forced to give them pamphlet to all future sexual partners.

Guess I don't see the sense in putting him in jail for a year, how's he suppose to support his children if he is locked up? Just seems it would be more resourceful to order him to use condoms as a prevention. Why should it be on the tax payers to provide food and shelter for him during his jailed time, and probably welfare and medical to his children as well.

Re: A fundamental right to procreate?
All of this would be solved if people only procreated when they are married (look at it as a license to procreate). And it should be very hard to get divorced - and the children need to be financially supported if conceived.

Oh, wait! Those WERE the rules once but somehow the "isms" (feminism, socialism, etc.) got control of our society and now we have THIS kind of stuff.

SOOOO PROGRESSIVE! FORWARD!

Re: A fundamental right to procreate?
well with most species on our planet, usually the ones with the best genes get to procreate. but with humans we dont have that luxury because we are the dominant species. there are enough humans that there is no need for everyone to have kids or should have kids. take me for example, i am not an alpha male, i do not have ideal genetic material to pass on to the next generation. i know this and choose not to have kids for that reason. does that mean i dont want to procreate, no of course not. but one of the benefits of being a sentient being is that i can still pass on my knowledge and experience to the next generation.

I thought that we all had choice and that government shouldn't invade our right to privacy and tell us what to do with our bodies?

Well if you can't take care of the 20 kids you're producing and just leaving it up to the single mothers, judges like these have a point. Not everyone has a fundamental right to procreate.

To prevent him from making more children he won't support. And you can't force someone to use a condom and if he keeps making kids he won't take care of clearly he won't be using them.

Re: A fundamental right to procreate?
Well, I don't "like" him either, but this is a slippery slope that may one day effect us all.

In the words of Marin Niemoller:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.
