What does "The Cover" mean?

What more can you explain about these logs you have come across?

Can you provide a link, so perhaps we can provide some insight after viewing in more context?

Or, can you take a screenshot and provide a link, or even better, embed as a smilie?

There are good investigators and experienced researchers willing to help, but "Need more data!"

It's the image that's on the cover of that issue of JAMA. It helps the librarian retrieve the periodical when requested.

Re: online medical journals about Emerging Infectious Diseases called things like "the orange sweater"
here i have found an explanation:
[link to wwwnc.cdc.gov]

"Images for the cover of Emerging Infectious Diseases are selected for artistic quality, technical reproducibility, stylistic continuity, communication effectiveness, and audience appeal. The images, which are published with permission of the artists or other copyright holders, are drawn from many periods (ancient to contemporary) and are used to "humanize" and enhance the scientific content by illustrating ideas, raising consciousness, revealing truth, stimulating the intellect, and firing the emotions.
The cover story has evolved by popular demand, literally out of the journal readers' wish to know the art and how it relates to them and to what they do. A sketch of the artist, period, and work, provides contextual knowledge, and a brief interpretation offers a link between the art and the human elements and goals of public health. The reader becomes familiar with the work, and in the end is surprised and, we hope, enlightened."

that still seems REALLY "dharma initiative" to me.

Very interesting!

Let us know if you (or anyone else) finds out anything more on this.

It does sound like some sort of code to me.

Read within the past year (no link) that CDC commenting on why the lack of publicity about the alarming increase in incidents of TB brought to the US by illegal aliens, said they did not want to stir up discrimination against illegals. I want to substantiate the use of seemingly innocent magazine covers and articles in magazines and newspapers.

They have been used for many years to pass information to field operatives so that they can maintain their clandestine operations.

Or to pass information on to field operatives in a mass information release without revealing the size of the organization through direct contact.

The name of the artwork on the cover of the journal.
This is an index separate from the index of article names.

The articles are published individually. It allows an image-based web search for each collection based on something other than volume and edition number.

Re: online medical journals about Emerging Infectious Diseases called things like "the orange sweater"
OP, I'm missing what you are finding so alarming.

JAMA is a print magazine, The Journal of the American Medical Association. They put paintings on the covers and then one of the editors (TB Cole, JM Thorpy...) writes up a one page article talking about the painting and it's significance and the artist.

You have accessed the index of the online version of those articles.

You can sign up for a free account if you really want to read them...

thanks. i am going to sign up and read them.
i still think this is weird.

why are they putting this completely arbitrary works of art on a journal about emerging infectious diseases?

it would seem to me that the only reason for that would be to not freak people out.

yes, every bit of information helps.
thank you.

interesting
"Orange Sweater (cover), by the American painter Elmer Bischoff (1916-1991), doesn't have a hidden meaning or tell a story. Like many of his paintings, it was intended to evoke a feeling, a sensory memory. The setting is a quiet space with tall windows and soft lighting—probably a library at Yuba College in northern California where Bischoff was on the faculty in 1955. The focal point is a woman's glowing orange sweater. All the colors in the room play off this small orange trapezoid at the center of the painting's lower third. Another woman sits far in the back near a window. A sense of stillness is created by the spacing of the figures and the drowsy tones of forest green, taupe, and mother-of-pearl. One can almost imagine dust motes floating in the air."

i wonder then what energing infectious disease they talk about after this lovely cover?
i will sign up and see.

shills are shilling the crap out of this thread so i know i am on to something.

plus, this information is not at all accessable my the public unless you fork over $55 an article.

"the cover" is that...a cover.
something to appease the public and they'll go "oh it's art"
never mind what is written inside about emerging infectious diseases. unless you'd like to pay $55 per article.
