Disturbing Trend - UPDATED - with experts warnings -NSA and your SECURITY CAMERAS

I noticed the same thing, except it's been like this for almost 2 years now. Yea, 2 years.

I was looking for a good cam that I could log into and have it upload video to my own server and found that the majority of the readily available equipment at any of the retail stores were all set up as IaaS (Infrastructure As A Service), which means the customer pays a monthly fee on top of the HIGHLY exaggerated costs of the newer cams.

So $10 to $30 a month to connect to your own vidcam that you paid $250 to $400 for off a shelf from Best Buy.

I honestly hadn't even thought of the ABC departments accessing the feeds, I was mostly looking at it as a Capitalist Raping to force me to pay them when I can do it myself.

Granted, I did just that by editing the firmware itself and redirecting where it saves my videos, but for the normal person... Good Luck.

I have noticed a disturbing trend while looking to replace a few surveillance cameras at the house.

Most of the DIY cameras have always been able to view the video remotely, record, record on motion detection, email notification, upload video/pics to your FTP server, etc.

Now the majority of the cameras will still do this, but only after the video is uploaded to the "cloud." That is, to get to any additional features, other than simply viewing, the video must be sent, via the internet, to a web storage facility (the cloud) that you do not control. This might not seem like a big deal, but i bet in the TOS or user agreement there is something that allows others (you know who i mean - think alphabet) access to your video. Still might not seem that bad until you realize what they can scan off your video including facial recognition.

Instead of gov putting cameras on every street corner (and the public debate/uproar) they can now just scan users own video (all connected with the IP address that it was uploaded from...so they have the location). Any doubts what that little new building that was built in Utah for?

for the money it is good. picture is pretty clear and does what it says it does. The network connection can be a little difficult to set up, but at least it's not uploaded to a cloud server and doesn't transmit data 24/7. Works when accessed with username/password and direct link to your machine. You can always just unplug the network cable when you are at home if you are worried about it being tapped into.

Agreed - all of the attachment to "ease" and "convenience" has actually completed a great deal of the government's job for them in their pursuit to completely monitor the populous.

From this, the way(s) they can/ will/ do implement more exercise of control over the populous will be under the auspices of "safety" and "security" (for your own good, of course), and the people will buy off on it like free donuts with their latte'.

This world is just getting fucking scary....

Fortunately, most on here will know what to do. The majority of the other people will not know and just install the "cloud cameras."

then when you walk/drive by their camera (which you dont know is on their house) you and everyone else is now on the cloud.

Basically, they get others to install these "cloud cameras" and require the video to be sent to the cloud. From there is where the access the video. Much cheaper for them and they dont have to fight with the public about installing cameras.
