Re: Share Your Fond Memories of GLP Addiction
Found this site cause one night I received a weird phone call with a recording of a lady speaking Spanish I typed the phone number into Google and one click lead to another, some one on here had made a thread about the same number..

been here a long time now.

I really dislike those threads by that Apollo person

I like reading posts by the person salt

My self, i'm always always an AC, unknown

Also, I move around a lot and the house Ive been staying most I'm banned

Found out that boredom is a symptom of GLP withdraw

Re: Share Your Fond Memories of GLP Addiction
The Deepwater Horizon explosion was what brought me to GLP...

By luck or fate I found a link to a GLP thread on that topic while searching Google for info...

Me and 1000's of other Doomtards watched it all live via ROV mounted cameras.

I remember just watching for hours as the broken well head vented right into the GOM...

That giant brownish plume that looked more volcanic than anything else...

There were times that I could have swore that you could make out menacing faces within the plume...some very devilish and evil looking...

That was my introduction to DOOM.

I don't post much, but i do need my daily addition of Doom and news lol.
Even in work i have GLP in an open tab and refresh probably once or twice in work.
It must be about 5 years or so, can't remember now.
But the info you get here is next to nothing and it keeps drawing you in.
I like to think I'm not addicted but i am.

A lot of interesting discussions and unique points of view.

And there was this one time when a very pretty Admin turned on the cams........

Re: Share Your Fond Memories of GLP Addiction
Well not exactly a memory because it wasn't so long ago . . . but a bunch of friends came over for happy hour and in the middle of it, I came into my office and got on GLP to respond to a thread that had me going.

One of my friends came in and asked 'what the hell are you doing'???

Ahahaha - I jumped up real quick and said 'nothing'!!

Re: Share Your Fond Memories of GLP Addiction
I don't know. I am here probably three hours a week in total. I don't think it's an addiction as much as I use it to check out alternate news, find obscure goings on, and just chat with friends like sitting at the local coffee shop.

Sure, there are weeks, especially when I have less work, that I am on here as much as two hours a day, which is too much. Of course, is that any worse than watching 'Honey Boo Boo' and 'Survivor'?

I don't know. Addiction is a matter of perspective. Some people are addicts and can't admit it. And some people think they are addicts, and just feel guilt over something that brings them joy or pleasure.

It's like masturbation, so what if you do it three times a day, as long as you are not neglecting your life, whose business is it? Same with a lot of things deemed addictive. It's all about your point of view.

Re: Share Your Fond Memories of GLP Addiction
So what's your favorite GLP memory?

I've been here for 10 years... I remember when it was really new to me, really exciting, and the addiction was just beginning to coarse through my veins...

One thing I remember pretty clearly is the nervousness I'd feel when my PM inbox read "1 New". That feeling a socially awkward person gets when they step into a really crowded room and people start looking at them.

I would see that "1" and get butterflies. I'd think, "OMG. I'm in trouble. I've really done it now."

I don't get too many PMs even now as a mod, but I definitely never get that feeling anymore.

But I'm still addicted to GLP. What's up with that? Anybody else ever have an addiction this longstanding (that wasn't a substance)?

Re: Share Your Fond Memories of GLP Addiction
One of my most fond glp moments was some years back in vc.

There was a rather colorful member called Starflame, he was always entertaining, anyway, he would mention now and again how he was sad that he lost contact with his son many many years ago and they had not had any contact since.

He revealed his sons name and a few of us in voice chat did a search and found him on facebook, sent him a message with a link back to vc.

Low and behold, this chap entered vc, he couldn't work out the settings to get the mic working but was typing away, it was in fact Starflames son.

Last I heard was that since that moment they have been in regular contact and now have a great father and son relationship.

I would have to say that was my most fond memory.
