Re: US Social Security Admin: More Than Half Of Wage Earners Make $30,000 or Less!
The "raw" average wage, computed as net compensation divided by the number of wage earners, is $6,238,607,249,941.26 divided by 151,380,749, or $41,211.36. Based on data in the table below, about 66.6 percent of wage earners had net compensation less than or equal to the $41,211.36 raw average wage. By definition, 50 percent of wage earners had net compensation less than or equal to the median wage, which is estimated to be $26,965.43 for 2011.

One thing the Republicans really get wrong is their support of corporatism rather than capitalism. It's obscene how many large corporations have such cozy business relationships with lawmakers, though it obviously applies to both parties.

I never vote for lefties, but getting rid of some of the anti-monopolistic measures and going totally for free trade has not helped most local economies.

What's the surprise sir?

Information that is public and that you just decided to read?

Answer is, no shit, did you think that the average wage earner in the US was $90K

That's pretty sad.

Well, that presuppses that there's a job waiting once college educated! What's the reality? A large percentage of people spend money on college and can't find jobs!

Yes, your chances used to be better. Now, they suck all around!

"More than half of America's recent college graduates are either unemployed or working in a job that doesn't require a bachelor's degree, the Associated Press reported this weekend. The story would seem to be more evidence that, regardless of your education, the wake of the Great Recession has been a terrible time to be young and hunting for work.

But are we really becoming another Greece or Spain, a wasteland of opportunity for anybody under the age of 25? Not quite. What the new statistics really tell us about is the changing nature, and value, of higher education.

First, here's the nut of the AP's findings, which it derived with the help of researchers from Northeastern University, Drexel University, and the Economic Policy Institute, based on data from the Census Bureau's Current Population Survey and the U.S. Department of Labor:

About 1.5 million, or 53.6 percent, of bachelor's degree-holders under the age of 25 last year were jobless or underemployed, the highest share in at least 11 years. In 2000, the share was at a low of 41 percent, before the dot-com bust erased job gains for college graduates in the telecommunications and IT fields.

Out of the 1.5 million who languished in the job market, about half were underemployed, an increase from the previous year."

Now couple that with the cost of a college education for four years alone. A lot of students don't graduate in four years by the way...

"Question:
What are the trends in the cost of college education?

Response:
For the 2010–11 academic year, annual current dollar prices for undergraduate tuition, room, and board were estimated to be $13,600 at public institutions, $36,300 at private not-for-profit institutions, and $23,500 at private for-profit institutions. Between 2000–01 and 2010–11, prices for undergraduate tuition, room, and board at public institutions rose 42 percent, and prices at private not-for-profit institutions rose 31 percent, after adjustment for inflation. The inflation-adjusted price for undergraduate tuition, room, and board at private for-profit institutions was 5 percent higher in 2010–11 than in 2000–01.
SOURCE:U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics. (2012). Digest of Education Statistics, 2011 (NCES 2012-001), Chapter 3 . "

So the cheapest tuition and room and board would cost you $54,400. Then you'd have a 50/50 shot of a job coming out. Many are underemployed. That usually means they're working part-time in a bar or restaurant making minimum wage and hoping for tips.

It's a national scandal.

"Have you heard the one about the newly graduated and licensed registered nurse that can’t find a job? Apparently nursing forums are abuzz with this news. But how can this be? Haven’t we all read story after story trumpeting the alarm that our nation is facing a critical, and some would add crippling, nursing shortage?

So which is it? Do we have a nursing shortage or not? Of course most, including myself, would state an emphatic “yes” to having a nationwide, not to mention international, shortage. But I would also mention that there appear to be several factors that affect these unemployed nurses.

Factor One: Expectations vs. Reality

This is a common affliction of the newly graduated/licensed nurse. They are being exposed to the now-common message of the massive nursing shortage — which is estimated to grow to over one million nurses by the year 2020 — and it has to some degree taken on a life of its own, leaving the expectation that with such a critical shortage there will be job openings aplenty.

Though one million is a nationwide number, this doesn’t mean that each state — or community, town and city within a given state — is equally impacted. For example, it is also estimated that by 2020, 44 states and the District of Columbia will face a critical nursing shortage. So what if you are licensed in one of the six states where the shortage isn’t as critical?

Also, just because there is a nursing shortage doesn’t mean that hospitals, clinics, etc. will hire just anyone. Most nursing schools have been expanding their programs and thus graduating more students; once licensed, these students are added to the applicant pool that a hospital has to choose from. So even with a shortage there is still quite a bit of competition for available slots."

"Number of Americans on Food Stamps Hit Another Record High
It doesn't look like President Obama will be able to shed his reputation as the food stamp president any time soon. According to new data from the USDA, the number of people on food stamps has hit another all time high of 47,710,324 which is up by 600,000 from August. To be fair, this number is a bit distorted due to disaster relief from Hurricane Sandy."

$30,000 sounds like a tons of money now, doesn't it?

Wait until they pay for Obamacare.

What a moron! You spout some nonsense about 4.2 % when I just proved 50% were underemployed or unemployed.

See this is a tactic by Obama supporters. Keep saying a number enough and then people will assume it's real. No thanks SHILL! Even the leftist journalists are now forced to admit the utter failure based upon economic data!

This is a great topic and a sore point after listening to Rush, Sean and Mitt complain over and over about half the people that pay NO income tax! That's right dumbfucks, even the US government feels sorry for you when you make this little so they don't make you pay income tax!

I used to make 82k but got cut to 41k on the next job after getting sacked. No big deal, we adapt. But at that rate, even using the standard deduction with 2 young children, taxable income is in the 20k range and a deduction or so more that you may be eligible put us at the ZERO tax rate! Not because we CHEAT like the rich boys, but because we make so little that we DO NOT QUALIFY for taxation!

It's INCOME tax Rush, Sean, Mitt. If you make shit for income, you pay shit for tax! Oh that's right, your accountants do your taxes, YOU wouldn't know. Get real.

Yes, FICA taxes.

I make very little money and more and more is being taken out every year. I'm in a 15% tax bracket so don't tell me I pay shit for taxes because that 15% + Sales tax and gas tax and all the other fuckin' taxes out their leaves me with very little, I can barely fuckin' survive.

Re: US Social Security Admin: More Than Half Of Wage Earners Make $30,000 or Less!
Now I don't feel so bad. I would be happy as a pig in slop if I made $30,000 a year. Haven't made that in several years now although my bills keep going up.

If you watch TV though seems we all have a huge home and all sorts of stuff.

Before Russia went through the revolution the newspapers would have glossy advertisements of goods for sales, while the population starved or became prostitutes to survive. Lies can hold a culture up only so long.

Young people are struggling to STAY in college. Why? Because they're hoping against reality that maybe if they stay long enough, the massive depression we're having will pass, and then and only then will they find work.

4.2% unemployment among college students! How absurd!

 Quoting: Royy

What a moron! You spout some nonsense about 4.2 % when I just proved 50% were underemployed or unemployed.
 Quoting: Don'tBeAfraid

u didnt prove anything i linked you the burea of labor statistics percentages from 2012 for unemployment among education levels and its 4.2 fucking percent.
If you think that unemployment for college grads is 50% and of course you kno that the nation unemployment is 8.2% then you fucking retarded.

You called me a sheep and i take offense to that. Im not only a ron paul supporter but im also a very skeptical and analytical thinker(whether you believe it or not.) But i cannot have a conversation about economics with someone who has never taken an economics class and is not open to the fact that you know nothing about something that you have not studied. Dont go to school thats fine, theres a million of you people out there and guess what,,, thats why your paid pennys to do shit jobs.. enjoy your life

and what does the avg. govt. employee make.....?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33368260

Average? A little more than 30,000. I make 38,000. Not that much. But with all of our real money making jobs sent overseas where do we work? I mean, where does the Government expect everyone to work? They sent nearly every decent job overseas years ago, so now it is either McDonald's or some shit like that. I have seen people applying for Minimum wage jobs that have Masters Degrees.

Our Country, the American Dream, is dead. The Chinese own the American Dream and if you have not seen the skyline of major Chinese cities, they are beginning to live the American Dream.

America is dead and now Obama is dismantling her. Piece by Constitutional Piece. A perfect Marxist. Hitler would be proud of Obama. He destroyed America from the Inside. Well, not like Bill Clinton did not help, but then again, we have Hillary as the outgoing SECSTATE and most likely the front runner for 2016, if Obama does not declare himself "supreme ruler".
 Quoting: 0311INFANTRYSIR

And Hillary said "the world they are trying to create". They are just fucking things up. And the country has to suffer through their experiment. Self serving Bitch that she is.

I know right! There's been massive losses in home and corporate real estate, all managed by bankers. They're toast.

And you know, to use an economics degree, you need to have a Masters at least and probably a PhD! Some guy with a Bachelors would be lucky to become a loan officer, except we're not making any loans!
