The Govt is broke, the citizens are breaking and the debt keeps rising:

This has to be the dumbest post on GLP. Probably the dumbest on the whole internet. This is not the 1990's.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25867801

I sincerely believe that a college education is a good thing. The problem is that most of the college students I encounter might have been best served by a trade school education had they been born in the 1990s. That's not available to them, for we have lost a huge portion of manufacturing jobs due to globalization and free trade. Then we outsourced a ton of service jobs, something I posted a pdf on. There really are no good jobs save in Nursing, Engineering, and working for the government.

The fact that some Nurses are having trouble finding employment when fresh out of school is alarming. In the USA, we've had a 40 year shortage of RNs. If they can't find work, that's scary, especially considering Obamacare and 45 million new patients.

There must be a curtailment of the growth of government, for the tax base is not there. This means a loss of new growth in government jobs. We know of course that the military is cutting back, and hence any defense related industries will also see cutbacks. Perhaps drone and surveillance tech and robots will continue to grow, but otherwise, I doubt it.

While our infrastructure is crumbling, and despite enormous lip service in the last eight years to boost the economy by construction and engineering jobs, it hasn't panned out.

What we should do, for the benefit of our respective nations, if ban free trade. If each country created their own items and services, then we wouldn't be in this mess. Then working people can purchase homes. We must try to put the genie of Free Trade back in the bottle.

In the USA, and now in Australia, there are oil reserves, and so we could do more domestic production and get away from Middle Eastern oilfields. In essence, if we cut off the purchase of their oil, those Muslim nations lack any other products save dates to pay for terrorism. They are too unstable, and it would behoove us to invest locally rather than in the Middle East. That sucks for Europe, but that's their problem.

It's not up to the USA to be a world policemen. It doesn't pay. It doesn't create wealth. In history, the only times a military paid was by plunder. Today, we plunder oil from the Middle East by helping corporations. We sell our armaments globally, and all this does is foment discord.

The USA needs to invest domestically. It's the only logical solution. It's that or eventual slavery and kowtowing to corporate masters.

Most young people have no common sense and zero ancestral skills. They can't build a fire and they can't hunt. How will they make it if they can't grow crops?

That diploma is only getting them a job waitressing, and that won't pay the loans off. Worse, they can't get enough hours to actually improve their situation enough to get benefits. Many college grads are working jobs that pay minimum wage and only by luck are getting tips. If that dries up, and it will because in a down economy people don't eat out as much, then they're screwed.

Minimum wage in the USA varies but is around $7.25. Waitressing pays half of that, because it's calculated that they make tips. No one can live on that, not without living with their mom and dad.

I agree with some of this. However, banning free trade is not necessary, just level the fucking playing field. The problem is a mix of labor unions, commodities traders, investment banks, socialism, corporate welfare, and other factors.

Face it, the entire global village is in decline. The Internet is a new Tower of Babel. It is going to fall, it's just a question of when. A year? A decade? A century?

Our young people are too worried about games, celebrities, and facebook. And our elders want to live forever, it's a mishmash of disasters.

Re: US Social Security Admin: More Than Half Of Wage Earners Make $30,000 or Less!
Yes, but the MSM tells us 'Happy Days Are Here Again!', what the fuck ever!

We have an 18 month supply of homes in this country and builders are churning out McMansions at a blistering pace, I mean big fuckin' ugly McMansions that at an average of $110 a square foot, and average square footage of 2600, means that the average home going up is $286K!

So, who is going to buy them? And that doesn't figure in the declining boomer population who are leaving McMansions as they take their hand basket ride to Hades!

Fucked, fucked, fucked.
 Quoting: American Sith: Darth Shillerus

It really makes zero sense for a family of four to purchase more than a 4 bed 3 bath home. That's about right for comfort and then later when the kids come back home for visits, or if you have company and need the extra space.

You're right these mega-homes make zero sense. The idea was that your home was likely the safest investment.

Honestly over the long haul, a modest well maintained home should increase in value. However, the average American moves every seven years. Often they don't prepay on their mortgage. That means you actually might not see any increase in appreciated home values to offset the real estate broker's fees plus have whittled down the principal enough to actually see a profit. Naturally in a declining market you won't.

In addition, a lot of foolish people took out home equity loans to buy silly things like a granite countertop. While it looks great, it's expensive. Things like that can add to the value of your home, mostly if you do the work, not have someone else do it for it's expensively installed.

If one stayed in an average home in my region for the entire 30 years, in reality, most people don't maintain their homes. Many areas decline in value over that much time as newer areas on the outskirts increase in value, and so sometimes people who purchased modest homes might make far more money investing. That time however has come and gone.

We have tons of real estate on banking books as assets, but they're toxic assets. The value of the home versus the mortgaged amount means it would make sense for many homeowners to literally walk away. Some have done that.

Meanwhile, the banks are not really in a hurry in some cases to release them. They know they might sell them for a fraction if they're lucky. In other cases, the robo-scandal means there's no clear title to the property. In some humorous cases, some enterprising individuals are using adverse possession to live in an abandoned home that the bank isn't checking on, often very expensive mansions, and merely living for free. It takes time to exhaust all of the eviction procedures and so in the meantime they live rent-free. Even some former homeowners are doing that.
[link to www.10news.com]

So if someone squats on a property long enough they own it. Of course, few can do that, but they can get free rent while doing it, and it takes a lot to evict them.

 Quoting: American Sith: Darth Shillerus

No argument from me. Re the elder question. A ton of retirees are still working part-time, and they're competing with young people. A lot of retirees can't afford to quit because their investments lost money. Retirees live longer and longer because of relatively inexpensive drugs. I know they seem expensive, but really by considering how much more longevity we have, they're not. We live into increasing decrepitude, and so medical costs soar as an elderly person crosses 70+ or so. This adds an enormous cost to Medicare.

At the same time, doctors must settle with the Medicare agency, for they don't get 100% of what is charged, and more like 75-80%, and so as more and more elderly folks are patients, then imagine trying to pay your bills as a physician running a business?

All of that will get worse.

Well this is depressing news.

Okay folks - learn a skill that makes good money and get out of the MickyD mentality.. a lot of the following areas are jobs where someone is self-employed and basically has developed their own career. Given that I was basically self-employed for years beginning as a teen this is something most folks can do if they have a skill to offer that someone wants. As a teen I started off doing yard work for others.

Throughout my life I've done more then 10 on the following list and will probably do more in the future. What makes life interesting is new skills learned and shared.

This list is the type of work that is needed in everyday society.

Electrician
Plumer
Transportation (planes, trains, taxi, cruise ships, bus driver)
Hospitals provide a variety of jobs:
Nurse (one family member with overtime earns 100k annually)
Respiratory Therapist
Physical Therapist generally work out of a hospital
Massage Therapist earns $65 an hour here
X-ray Technician
Law Enforcement
Military is also a good option to learn employable skills
Telephone Company
County Services
Social Services
Public Health
Travel Guide
Landscaper
Construction Worker
Carpentry
Dental Assistant or hygienist
Yard busters (take lawn mower and tools to others yards to do maintenance)
Realtor (depends upon location)
Accountant/CPA or just purchase the Turbo Tax program and offer to do the taxes for others for a small fee.
Home Health Aid (provide care in the home for someone who needs it)
Housekeepers here earn $25 an hour other areas $15 an hour
Transportation (bus, train, plane, cruise ships)
Artist/Musician (one person learned the Bob Ross style of painting and then gave classes charging a nice fee per individual)
What skills do you have that you can teach others through the community center and get paid for?
Taylor (making custom clothes for others)
Chef (for hotels, cruise ships, restaurants)
Architect (even building tiny houses)
Sales Person
Nanny (live in)
Child Care Provider
Day Care Center in conjunction with a college or business
Martial Arts teacher/Yoga teacher/Dance Instructor
School teacher or college instructor
Hair dresser (for men and women)
Investigator
Marketing
Writer/Journalist
Teacher
Administrator
Coordinator (organizing groups of people for different types of events)
Photographer
Grant Writer
Computer Repair
Repair shop
Mechanic
Truck Driver (semi/FedEx/UPS?)
TSA
Social Worker
Counselor
Telephone Company
Solar installer
Rain gutter installer
Roofer
Fix-it man
Restore houses
Paint cars - car repair
Maintance worker (hotels/businesses)

It would be a helpful to sit down and do a self-assessment. For example:

Do you like to work inside or outside?
Do you like to work with your hands?
Do you like helping people or working alone?
Do you like living in the city, a small town, a rural area, suburbia, in the country or mountains where you can be a ski instructor.
Are you detail oriented?
Do you get along with people?
Do you have what it takes to get the job done?
Are you adventurous where you enjoy trying new things or going to new locations?
Do you like children?
Do you like older people?
Do you like animals?
Do you like teens?
Can you work under someone or prefer to be your own boss?
Do you have self-discipline and follow-through?
What skills do you already have - list them?
What interests you?
What skills would you like to learn and develop?
Where can you learn these skills?

Give some thought to what kind of service/skill you can provide for someone else that makes you happy.

If I were younger I would have gone into the US Space command program or been an architect building tiny houses, which I'm still considering. The main point of all of this is to self-actualize your dream by putting the effort into learning something that will provide self worth and an income. Good luck.

what people dont understand is the 30k wasnt so bad in the 90's. The inflation wasnt so high. The dollar was worth more.
30k a year today is like making 15k a year in the 1990's if not less.

Wages are low , inflationary spending by the government plus new laws forcing people to spend money they dont have.It is what will kill this nation in the next few years.

The real problem that caused it was foreign workers in the u.s.
Companies loved it because it knocked 30 years off wage increases.

Yeah. People's wages have been flat since the late 90s. I was lucky back then and had a great job even as far back as 1980. I look at what some people are living on, and how thin the margins are, and how dealing with a single car accident that only ruined their old vehicle or breaking an arm and dealing with the recovery, or a divorce, or whatever will make them lose their job and then be on unemployment and food stamps.

A global economic collapse is highly likely. There are too many signs. Political instability is rampant. Dust Bowl conditions in the US that could devastate agriculture and hence world food prices. The vast majority of Americans don't have skills or food supplies and that ain't good partner.

How the heck are regular Americans going to pay 20K for Obamacare? That makes me incredulous if the median family makes 54K.

The words you are looking for are "know" and know more "than", NOT know more "then", AND it's "too", not "to". PS Please capitalize "i" as "I". I assume ONE thing: Your alleged school neither taught nor required English classes. It's a bloody shame someone throws about haughty terms yet can't express themselves sensibly. Shameful!

Re: US Social Security Admin: More Than Half Of Wage Earners Make $30,000 or Less!
All this means is that the new world order devils are ruling us and driving our economy into the ground. As they are causing great economic pains upon America and are intent on enslaving you all. Especially when our President is a marxist/communist/socialist who believes that people should live with much less. While his puppet masters are storing up vast amounts of wealth, to the tune of 55 trillion dollars!!

But in the end; the Great and the Almighty God of Heaven shall defeat them all, and plague them all for 42 months of hell on the Earth. And this will happen after they have killed and martyred most of Gods people; who will not take their zombie making and mind controlling, mark of the beast chip in their right hand or foreheads.

And those who take their beast chip; shall be tormented 24/7, day and night, because it will mean that they have joined Satan and his antichrist beast. And it will mean that they have rejected God and Jesus Christ, and have chosen Satan as their lord and god!!

This is a great topic and a sore point after listening to Rush, Sean and Mitt complain over and over about half the people that pay NO income tax! That's right dumbfucks, even the US government feels sorry for you when you make this little so they don't make you pay income tax!

I used to make 82k but got cut to 41k on the next job after getting sacked. No big deal, we adapt. But at that rate, even using the standard deduction with 2 young children, taxable income is in the 20k range and a deduction or so more that you may be eligible put us at the ZERO tax rate! Not because we CHEAT like the rich boys, but because we make so little that we DO NOT QUALIFY for taxation!

It's INCOME tax Rush, Sean, Mitt. If you make shit for income, you pay shit for tax! Oh that's right, your accountants do your taxes, YOU wouldn't know. Get real.

Yeah but it's people that have the ZERO tax rate that want to raise our tax rate.

You guys don't understand "wage"earners. This is W2s... but majority of business owners DO NOT use w2s. They file by 1099s, Dividends or Self Employment.

W2s only tell you half of the story guys. I own a business and report W2 for myself a small amount and the rest of the profit is reported as self employment income.

This info needs to be propagated far and wide.

If you have a social media account, please post this info, including the official government link, for all to see.

(Part of the problem we have is that many people still do not fully comprehend the nature of our ongoing economic demise. It is very important for people to see the unvarnished truth about what is really going on.)

Thank you.

I agree this information needs to be shared. Especially as the FED targets a 2% inflation rate (which we all know is higher depending on the goods and services being observed).

The devaluation (inflation) of the dollar could eventually lead to more jobs being created in the US. There are many factors that could impair or delay this process. For example other countries devaluing their currency in an effort to stay "even" with the dollar, social stability, infrastructure, etc.

Regardless even if the US has full employment chances are those jobs will be in the 50-60% range, which essentially places these individuals into a role similar to that of a sharecropper as it doesn't provide enough to substantially save for emergencies nor retirement.

We have all seen our wages decrease whether by taxes, increase in costs or by having wages cut by struggling employers. I don't see a simple solution to this situation which has been building for generations.

The government has to substantially reduce spending which will cause an enormous amount of job loss (e.g. Pentagon warning of 800,000 job cuts many of which are contractors). This will put major pressure on the private sector. There was a time when the private sector could absorb this pressure but now with this huge influx of available workers it is entirely possible that employers will replace existing employees with those willing to make less for the same work or they will simply reduce wages.

Given the debt the US has accumulated taxes can only rise and cuts will have to be made. Use this time to prepare as much as possible. Save as much as possible (even if its $10/week) and pay off debts.

That is correct. They have the option to own multilpe businesses which they can use to move profits around to and from and avoid the appearance of profits, and they cab set up "Foundations" that shelter billions and billions of untaxed incmoe.

The government and it's greedy corporate masters have been very successful in reducing the wages of the Average Joe downard which is where they will continue to go. They are well into the reduction of the next tier up. the police, fire, and teaching people now, and are hitting them hard. They have also launched their assault upon the entrepreneur types with the 200-400k income levels, and by the time they are through, their plan to Communise America will be complete. They will have the filthy rich, ruling Masters and the rest of us will be poverty laden slaves. America has had the largest disparity between rich and poor for many years now, it has been well publicized and is undeniable. Embrace poverty, it is the only way to defeat it.

Young people are struggling to STAY in college. Why? Because they're hoping against reality that maybe if they stay long enough, the massive depression we're having will pass, and then and only then will they find work.

4.2% unemployment among college students! How absurd!

LOL, for this person to even begin to sound credible, he/she also need to take some courses in statistics and basic english grammer, not to mention punctuation and capitalization.

"u didnt prove anything i linked you the burea of labor statistics percentages from 2012 for unemployment among education levels and its 4.2 fucking percent.
If you think that unemployment for college grads is 50% and of course you kno that the nation unemployment is 8.2% then you fucking retarded."

Yes, he did prove what he said. If unemployment rate is 8.2%, and 50% of that number are college grads, then 50% of 8.2% is 4.1%. Off by .1%, but not to worry, fractions beyond one decimal point would correct it.

So your figure that 4.2% of college grads are unemployed just proves that 50% (of total 8.2% uemployment) are college grads.

"If you think that unemployment for college grads is 50% and of course you kno that the nation unemployment is 8.2% then you" understand statistics. Fixed that for you.

Hope this doesn't confuse you too much, with all your economic theory buzzing around in your brain.

The real problem that caused it was foreign workers in the u.s.
Companies loved it because it knocked 30 years off wage increases.

Wait until those making less then $30,000 a year with a family have to start paying for health care because Obama says so..

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21300118

Oh but it has been happening. Mitt Romney (of all people because he was definitely my horse in the last election) put in a health insurance mandate in Massachusetts when he was governor. The program had been absolutely twisted from its original directives set out by him and the program actually worked pretty well but it has now sent insurance costs in MA to absolutely disgusting levels since Obamacare was passed but still hadn't been implemented. There are already tax penalties for not carrying insurance in MA. The only difference since Obamacare is passed that if you were out of work here when the election happened and it became clear Obamacare was going to happen on the 1st of Jan, most employers in MA gave up FT employees for PT ones and now most people are paying penalties because they can't get jobs that offer healthcare and they don't want the state healthcare. In that forcing the people to pay for a consumer product, even if it is deemed beneficial to them, is unconstitutional I see the intended purpose on the part of Romney was benign and intended beneficial and the MA system actually did work pretty well but OCare is definitely an effort to nationalize and move healthcare to public healthcare by driving costs up so high that the only answer would be the government to take over the healthcare system entirely which would lower costs. Just another step in the removal of our Constitutional Rights.
