Retarded or not... it's not like some ricer is adding wings to the back of his civic that won't even do 140. Those add stability and increased maneuverability at higher Gs would be my inkling just from those pictures and the assumed aerodynamics.

As for how it works? I'd have to say that considering they went toe to toe with the Iraqis back in the day who were being supplied by the US, and didn't fair too terribly, that it works... match for anything the US has? I'd have to say no.

But the important thing here is... compared to its neighbors? I'd say Iran just made Qataris, Saudis, Bahranis, and Kuwatis shiver a little. They have already stated that if Iran nukes up they would out of defense. This can only lead to an escalation in non-nuke armaments rising.

Especially when they're aiming it directly at an English speaking aggressor. Iran isn't really acting out of the ordinary here. If we had a nation with more than 45 bases surrounding us with the capabilities and will to attack if the need arose (be it real or mocked up), we'd be rattling our saber too. All the better if your enemies question what exactly is in it or how it works. If we don't already know all about it, then I'd say we have a fair few educated guesses we could make. And with all those mystery explosions at curious and key installations, I'd say we have more than a little idea.
