That said, would that I could erase that line from T.S. Eliot from my head....

"This is the way the world ends...Not with a bang but a whimper."

I think human beings are made of finer stuff than is often displayed to our horror and, unfortunately, increasing acceptance. I truly wish we could channel that higher, finer, stuff to address the larger issues attacking from all sides.

Maybe it just begins with treating with kindness those put in our immediate path. This done, with ever-growing frequency, we might be able to stand on these little mercies to view and address the larger.
