Warriors collide
on a ghostly path,
weary of death.
Coldness wraps
a shroud,
they feel not.
Un-knowing the warmth of hearth
and fellow man,
they expertly succumb.
And so return,
as warriors
on a ghostly path.

The goal of searching is to find
And the best place to start is your mind.
A quest of unknown complexity.
Will it bring us to the ultimate conclusion?
Or lead us down the path of colorful delusion.

True enough to believe,
False enough to deceive,
Those words that flow like water.
Do they deserve our attention?
Are they valuable enough to mention?

Lost in a sea of misunderstanding,
Searching for the shore in hope of landing.
A glance behing the curtain
Could reveal the TRUTH,
Or just a glass of Vodka and Vermouth.
One Truth.... many realities

The rude awakening is almost here.
Hung over headache so nothing is clear,
How did I get to this unfamiliar place?
A look in the mirror shows a confused face.

A timid advance to the window for a look.
Nothing seems real, like a page from a book.
People wandering aimlessly on the street
Slowly, sadly almost dragging their feet.

The Sun is hidden behind a curtain of mist.
Suddenly it hits you with the sting of a fist,
We were lured into this indentured fate
The promise of prosperity was the only bait.

So high from the smell of plastic were we
Chasing the carrot we ran with giggling glee.
But now all our toys from Christmases past
Melt away before our eyes while we stand agast.

Can you remember the songs you used to sing?
Do you recall the smell of green from the Spring?
Now the leaves are brown, released to fall free
A joyous refrain haunted by its distant melodie.

So many cycles in life that must repeat
What begins with triumph shall end in defeat.
Prepare then yourself for what you must endure,
Nurture the seeds of wisdom and keep them pure.

Don't cry out in anger for your sad misery,
Don't shed a tear as you ply your selfish plea.
Let the knowledge of your fate pass through you
As you follow a path that is straight and true.
One Truth.... many realities

There's some really amazing stuff getting posted on here! Couldn't resist sharing a few more with you beautiful folks!

The Man Who Lived in a Grain of Sand

Have you ever heard
The sound of a single eye opening,
Looking, gazing longingly at itself in a
Lightning-stricken sand castle,
Each grain melting & congealing,
Coalescing & fusing into a
Collage, a million-mirror-montage
Of the only thing that holds
Absolute truth, the one sign
That tells all, the spark & flame
Which burns whithin the eye that
Has seen the light?
It sounds like...

The Things Worth Remembering

'What year is it?' I ask myself,
Waking to the lamenting sound of
Grey-black thunder clouds drifting by overhead.
Although the minutes crawl by, each second
A gladiator battling the next one for domination over
Our lives, and the hours inch by,
If inches were but a little smaller,
The days quickly become a blur. With each
New one I put under my belt, two
Fall out of my pocket as I
Walk down the alley between
Space Avenue and Time Boulevard.
In the beginning,
There was denial, but when I
Forgot the beginning,
Denial begot distress, then
Distress became acceptance.
The more the past begins to roll up,
The more important the future
Seems. What happens if it catches
Up to me? Will it roll over me and
Leave dust and smoke in its wake? What
is IT anyways? The one thing that is
Sure to remain are these words
Echoing in your heart and head.
So when you no longer feel your
Past breathing down your neck, when
Your thoughts backwards are just
As cloudy as your thoughts forwards,
Breathe, and Sigh, and Sit, and Write...
The things worth remembering.

Eternity

Do you remember how you felt when you realized you were invincible?
Did your heart start beating like a drum,
As lightning coarsed through your veins?
Did life look brighter through imortal eyes,
Was the air more real, more crisp and alive?
Or did you C o L p O e S n E your eyes and forget it all?
What a strange dream that was? What a strange dream this is?
Only time will tell where the line is drawn.

Peace all

Stop, just stop
Listen for a moment to all the sounds
These thoughts in my head going round and round
My mind screams give me some peace!
A quiet moment with some relief
Relief from the fact that I cant sleep
My mind keeps running
I'm getting weak
Can someone free me from this prison
The one that I built when no one would listen
Running
Running
Who am I running from?
The fact that I don't know who I am
Or where I come from
I sigh relief
I'm coming back down
Down from the high that makes me feel like a clown
I want to be normal
I want to be sane
I am what I am
Did I make myself this way?
I can't find no one else to blame
I just wish these voices would stop saying my name
"I'm not home right now, please go away
I'm off finding my mind it ran away today"
Some one find the pieces to this puzzle
The puzzle is my life
My life is a mess
I don't know which way to turn
Just take a lucky guess...I guess
Why do I keep going, going
I need to slow down
Stop just Stop

The Contest is now officially over. No poems after this post will be considered for the winning. I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for sharing with us all your art of rhyme and prose.

This thread stands as a testament of the creativity, and intellect of GLP. There has been an impressive amount of poems submitted. I have read each and every one. I am proud to be apart of such an inspiring and amazing community!

I wish I could award you all. But even if your poem doesn’t end up winning… that doesn’t mean you didn’t share with us an amazing piece of art. You all are winners in my eyes… and your talent is clear and unlike any other group I have been associated with.

So stay tuned! There is much work to be done on this side!

I am having my wife assist me in picking the Top 10… She doesn’t know any of you, she is a non member and she will ‘judge’ fairly based on the poem and poem alone.

I want to run a fair contest :)

cheers

…and just because its over… doesn’t mean you have to stop posting your poems! :)

the contest is over now... and by my own rules this entry is non eligible for the prize...

BUT...

That is my favorite... it was ingeniously creative! Not only is it a GLP themed poem... but it actually used GLP as the poem. followed structure and rhymed.

some good ones.
dont envy you having to choose Doc.lol
Lots of Acs put their stuff out just for the chance to have their art read or participate, lots of members added their work whilst not wanting the upgrade, just wanting to be part of the poetry appreciation.
Nice.
Lots of good wordsmithing and witty creativeness.

but man idont envy you having to choose ;-)

EDIT: Extended until 9pm EST! Throwing in an additional 3rd place prize of 'Free TRIAL upgrade for 1 month'

Alright Dr. Astro recently had a contest on here. I participated and it was a lot of fun!

So I wanted to offer a contest myself... I've spent much time thinking about what type of contest...

I figured it would be fun to see what kind of poetry my fellow GLPers could come up with.

So do you wanna earn a full upgrade for a month?

I spent my Karma and got the Karma Prize 'Free FULL upgrade for 1 month for a friend'

The rules are simple... write us a poem... no plagiarizing! It has to be an original poem!

This contest ends on February 3rd... This Sunday Evening 7pm EST

I'll pick my top 10 faves and start another thread with a poll after 7pm EST Sunday... this poll will have the top 10 picks so that GLP can vote for the winner!

The runner up of this contest will receive an 'Free TRIAL upgrade for 1 month' I already have that Karma prize.

In order to win this prize you must have at least an registered account!! If you havent got one... make sure you create one...
your poem will not be a valid entry without at least posting it under a registered account!

Of course I am not competing lol
But I wanted to show you a poem I did...
as an example
I'm not the best poet... but its a poem none the less...
If I can write one... you can too!

Luna

The moon she shines
Over land and sea
I'd like to think
Only for me

Luna my love
My alabaster queen
Will you smile?
Just for me?

She glides so softly
As she passes by
The romance of night
The heavenly sky light

Luna my love
Come and visit me
Please share with me
Your secrets of eternity

I reach my hand
Into the sky
But as always
You pass me by

Luna my love
Take me away
Let me journey with you
Each night and day

Give me a sign
Maybe a shooting star
That in your heart
I don't drift far.

Oh Luna my love
My majestic angel above
Give me just a sign
That your heart is mine

 Quoting: Luna by Dr. Acula

Alright GLP have at it!

I wrote this when I was young....

"Need some help dad?"

All he cared about was his 12 ounce can,
and you call yourself a man.
You said I was your best friend.
Yet you let me down to the end,
time and time again.

I gave you my love and loyalty.
Only to open my eyes and see,
that daddy had no love for me.
I held on to your hand,
even when you dragged me through the sand.
I always had your back,
until I felt my heart crack.
I was there when no one else was around,
yet you repeatedly stomped my heart into the ground.
I picked you up when you fell down,
as you stood and watched me drown.
I gave you heat when you were cold,
but you always gave up and said, "I fold."
I helped you like no other,
treated you like my brother.

Gave you chance after chance,
but you left me dry like unwatered plants.
Leaving my soul tattered and bruised.
My mind lost and confused,
to find again I was used.
I gave my life away,
every fucken day.

Why?

So you could drop me into hell,
leave me there to dwell.
Yeah, you may be in jail,
stuck there without bail.
But it's me that's screwed,
left here bitter, numb and crude.
Because you couldn't be a man,
to your old number 1 fan.

That's me,
guess I'll see you when you're free,
DADDY!!!
