Quoting: ..|O_o|.. 10032593 If you're really cleaver you could apply for a government energy/infrastructure grant to pay for the renovations.. Yeah I'm sure the landlord would be really happy about that. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 33792358 United Kingdom 02/07/2013 11:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think this is basically just a tax to claw back some of the money from people they couldn't house in smaller accommodation; because it either wasn't available to house them at the time, or they lived under different circumstances at the time of the initial rent agreement. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33792358 CHAV TAX So, are we going to be paying their moving expenses every few years as family size changes? I get the feeling this makes no sense at all. It's probably just intended to keep communities transitory. If they don't need the space, they should move. You miss the point, THEY THINK THEY ARE ENTITLED TO THE EXTRA SPACE WITHOUT PAYING FOR IT! All the while some 50 year old guy down the street who has been running his family owned 200 year old business is working his ass off to the bone paying for somebody half a mile away to sit in a 4 or 5 bedroom home plopping out half a dozen kids and never having a job or an interest in creating a job. UNSUSTAINABLE! and if it continues it will erupt into all these entitled morons rioting and burning down their own neighborhoods. |

Now that really would cause a riot. To be honest though, any measure that makes it harder for the scroungers is a good measure in my book. its the first step to exactly that. The day they try to tax me for the extra bedrooms in the house that I have bought with my own money......... I won't be happy Thats a different kettle of fish though, you own it. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 475310 Have you looked around you lately? no kidding. We need to band together, you brits and us yanks. And we need to present a united front.... because everything that is happening to you will happen to us and everything that is happening to us is/has already happened to you. They don't want us sympathizing with each other. THEY are trying to crush us both. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 33792358 United Kingdom 02/07/2013 11:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You know how it works:- First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me. Terrible attempt at leftist guilt propaganda. Fact of the matter is we have a completely unsustainable social system in this country that needs massive fucking reform, because if it isn't reformed the money it costs will cause a financial collapse. Within a few decades the majority of this country is going to be the older generation, who the fuck pays for them? The NHS, the police, local government, pensions everything in this country needs a reform, because it has got so bad with spending..... and nobody in power is admitting the money just wont exist to pay for all this soon. Not one of the politicians will take responsibility... What they will do is what the US is doing which is print money like crazy, which will eventually lead to loss of confidence and probably hyperinflation. I want the system to work, but that doesn't mean it is working. Dark times are ahead in our lifetimes, and those that stop denying it will be better off when it comes... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 33792358 United Kingdom 02/07/2013 11:22 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you take money from the government they are allowed to set the conditions. The solution isn't riots, it's individual responsibility. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33854599 For too long the left wing was in charge, and they did what leftists always do, the same things they are doing in the US now. They encumbered businesses with idiotic regulations, and scorn and punish success. Now businesses have abandoned your shores in droves, high-value earners have chased their jobs to Singapore and Hong Kong, and vast swathes of your people are soft and dependent, with an expectation of a government-guaranteed lifestyle that far outstrips the value they generate to society and, therefore, the taxes they pay. Unfortunately, your government is now bankrupt. There's no more money for them to use to buy the bread and circuses they entertained you with while they were destroying your economy. So now, much too late, the reality of the result of more than a decade of Labour Government rule is setting in. It's not pleasant to watch as more and more Brits (and Euros in general) awaken from the specious dream of socialism to the cold light of morning in the real world. However, awaken you must, and there's nobody you can attack or riot in front of who can help you reclaim the dream, since it was never real in the first place. You will only succeed in damaging your own neighborhoods, and divert government money away from your problems and into law enforcement and damage control. If anything good could possibly come of this, it is that the next generation of Brits will come to more closely resemble the gritty heroes of the WWII generation. It's unbelievable that the same nation that stared down the Nazis with iron will, indomitable spirit, and almost superhuman sacrifice, sired a generation of weak-willed pussies who make no connection between contribution to society and their own lives and livelihood. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 33337354 Ireland 02/07/2013 11:27 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's not as drastic as OP is making out. Basically people in social housing, with more bedrooms than they use will be asked to pay up or relocate. They will be allowed to sublet the spare room to cover the tax if they choose to. I agree with OP's sentiment but this is not the spark we need. Quoting: NSF001 They won't be "asked" to pay, they'll be told. And they'll be "allowed" to sublet. Geezuz, being a subject must be nauseating. Bear in mind this only applies to government subsidised housing. I get that now..its about time the leeches feel the pinch. You own your house you can have ten spare bedrooms if you like. Imagine it was across the board though, think of the bill for Buckingham palace You know as well as I if it were, they would find a way to exempt themselves, just like all politicians do. |

I agree with OP's sentiment but this is not the spark we need. That makes sense. If one person only needs one bedroom and has more then they can move to a one bedroom and open up the lodging to a family. Or they can stay and pay a tax. Looks like the government needs to make room for people who do need the extra rooms. And the only way to do this is to get people to make room by taxing them. |

Probably. However, what you need to do is ask yourself a question. How the fuck is a 70 year old person still living in a council house? What the hell did they do with their lives for 50 odd years that meant they had nothing to show for it? My grandparents and parents got fucking jobs and bought houses. The immigrants are not really the problem, they are a symptom of a unsustainable culture of socialist entitlement. They come here because we give everything away for free. The difference in the past was the family supported everything, now the government supports everything, and the government wont say no so long as they can print money and influence votes. Family wont give drug addict and aloholic money until they make the rest of the family homeless, but the government will just pay out for welfare programs until the money starts running out. |

If you are going to take from the government then the government should be able to tell you what to do. People in government housing should be thankful they even have a roof over their heads. Or if they aren't then they could live in a shelter or on the streets. |
