I love his art! 5* OP! Thanks for reminding me about him. I saw one of his museums in St petersburg, FL (or dedicated to his art). Awesome! I bought some copies of his art.

I have wondered if there are in end times signs or hidden messages in his art? Have you ever looked for that or meaning? His art can be pretty trippy!

Re: Salvador Dalí - Quotes and Pics
I found one! They say Dali- was in the know! Here is discription of his famous picture: Geopoliticus Child Watching the Birth of the New Man

Painted during his stay in the United States from 1940 - 1948, Geopoliticus Child Watching the Birth of the New Man initiates Dalí's classic period. The ideas for Dalí's classic works were derived from a variety of sources, including contemporary events, his Spanish heritage, and Catholic symbolism, replacing much of the personal symbolism of his surrealist period.

While working on this painting in 1943, the artist jotted down some notes. They read: "Parachute, paranaissance (sic), protection, cupola, placenta, Catholicism, egg, earthly distortion, biological ellipse. Geography changes its skin in historic germination."

Unlike the meanings of his surrealist paintings of the 1930s, this work's meaning is accessible because the surrealistic contradictions are absent. The Geopoliticus Child reflects the newfound importance America held for the expatriate Catalan artist. The man emerging from the egg is rising out of the "new" nation, America, which was in the process of becoming a new world power.

Africa and South America are both enlarged, representing the growing importance of the Third World, while Europe is being crushed by the man's hand, indicating its diminishing importance as an international power.
The draped cloth below [above?] the egg represents the placenta of the new nation. An androgynous figure points to the emerging man, acknowledging the importance of this new world power.

The cowering child at her feet represents the spirit of this new age, and the child casts the longer shadow indicating that he will replace the older age

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33680198

I don't care for all of Dalí's works either, but not only was he prolific (which is necessary for any "great" artist), but he was very multifaceted, not at all limited to just paintings. Check out that What's My Line video that someone posted yesterday and you see how this man's mind is much broader than just paintings.

Also there is that video he produced posted on page 1, which totally disgusts me personally, but I am too old and wise to be dissuaded by a few things I don't like in a person or a few flaws.

That is the nature of reality. Pieces of perfection can be found everywhere, if one knows how to look, and wherever one finds perfection, they will also find some ugliness or things they do not like,... everywhere, depending on how one is observing. This lesson is learned repeatedly throughout our lives.

One looks at the saint too closely, and they find a demon. One studies the demon closely and they find a saint. There are no saints or demons, but rather ways of perceiving.

So for me perhaps the point, is when I catch some aspect of anyone or anything which I find especially clear, or beautiful, or aware, or whatever, I ride that for what it's worth, and don't allow that aspect to get lost for the crap I see around it.

What really impresses me about Salvador Dalí, and why I emphasize his quotes, is because I have seen beyond "the matrix" my entire life. It is only recently I have come upon people using the term, "the matrix", and I still have never had the opportunity to see the film, but it perfectly describes what I know that sets me apart from most people.

It is obvious in the words of Salvador Dalí that he too sees beyond the matrix, and the energetic underpinnings of both reality, and the lies that humans are wrapped up in, and I honor him for that aspect more than anything, regardless of his paintings.... and for that matter I doubt that you, and for sure not myself, or most people in the world, are able to master painting as well as Dalí, anyhow.

"Painting is an infinitely minute part of my personality."

Re: Salvador Dalí - Quotes and Pics
He has obviously had psychodelic experiences. His mind is broadened beyond normality, and he had the rare kind of personality that would embrace such changes and grow on them.

My only problem is, he makes complete sense to me. He was trying to expand the imagination of his generation to help them grow. He was a living anti-thesis of the "normal man". The normal man being completely obscured from wisdom, nature, natural laws, from the real truth of existence, from our spiritual freedoms etc.

Re: Salvador Dalí - Quotes and Pics
There is a young successful super-realist painter and paraglider pilot from Spain who drops in on me sometimes here for paragliding, Xevi Vilaro. I love to hear him and his buddies speak the Catalan Spanish, a beautiful and complex Spanish that I don't hear often in Mexico.

He's an awesome paraglider pilot and does aerobatics, and is definitely fun to party with after flying, although he seems to have some disdain for Salvador Dalí, don't know why. (egoisim?) I think he gets tired about people asking him about Dalí and making comparisons.

He is very successful financially and travels around the world regularly. I don't see yet that he can hold a candle to Dalí, but he is young and probably has many years ahead of his career. I'm not the creator with the brush in my hand, so who am I to say?

Here are a few links. Woah, check out the video! He did some horribly realistic paintings about Jimmy Saville!

I never knew.

"You know the worst thing is freedom. Freedom of any kind is the worst for creativity."

"You know, Dalí spent two months in jail in Spain, and these two months were the most enjoyable and happy in my life."

"Before my jail period, I was always nervous, anxious. I didn’t know if I should make a drawing, or perhaps make a poem, or go to the movies or the theater, or catch a girl, or play with the boys. The people put me in jail, and my life became divine."

The exploding dynamite in the Duck's butt is genius? I guess I'm too much an animal lover to see any intelligence in that.

Here is a more extended quote I found. It accompanies a pretty outrageous image that would be cool if someone could upload.

Dali: “I know what the picture should be … We take a duck and put some dynamite in its derriere. When the duck explodes, I jump and you take the picture.”

Halsman: “Don’t forget that we are in America. We will be put in prison if we start exploding ducks.”

Dali: “You’re right. Let’s take some cats and splash them with water.”

"Let my enemies devour each other."
- Salvador Dalí

Would that then require having at least two, but not one enemy? So that one could defeat the other.

The most powerful enemy is "Yaotl", one's self, ones own ego, in Nahuatl philosophy. Also that philosophy often suggests that one does not confront enemies or serious problems directly, but looks to use outside forces first to vanquish an enemy.

Perhaps it helps to have another enemy around to attack the ego, the biggest enemy. Professional clowns were considered a necessity in ancient native societies.

In fact to this day in Mexico there are many professional street clowns both in the big cities and the small pueblos.

The ancient clowns, or contraries, had the role to go straight at those with the biggest egos, the leaders usually, and make fools of them in public.
