Hacker blackmailed 350 women into stripping on their webcams, FBI says | |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 25736464 02/03/2013 03:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The FBI has arrested a 27-year-old man, who they claim hacked the accounts of Facebook users, and coerced hundreds of women into stripping while he watched via Skype. Quoting: smilesun Karen "Gary" Kazaryan, of Glendale, California, was arrested yesterday on federal computer hacking charges. According to a Department of Justice press release, Kazaryan is alleged to have broken into victims' email and Facebook accounts, changed their passwords, and searched for naked and semi-naked photographs. Additionally, Kazaryan is said to have scooped up other information about his victims, including their passwords, names of their friends, and other personal details. Posing as a woman, Kazaryan would allegedly trick other potential victims into believing they were talking to one of their female friends, and persuade them to remove their clothing in front of their webcam. Kazaryan allegedly threatened to post nude photos of some of his victims on their Facebook pages if they refused to comply with his demands. The FBI says that it has seized approximately 3,000 compromising photos from Kazaryan's computer, and believes more than 350 women may have suffered from what the FBI has described as "sextortion". If convicted of all counts, Kazaryan could face up to 105 years in federal prison. The FBI is urging all women who believe they might be a victim to contact the Los Angeles Field Office at (310) 477-6565. Read more [link to nakedsecurity.sophos.com] awesome. |

New malware accuses victims of viewing child porn and shows them proof [link to www.geek.com] A particularly nasty new bit of drive-by malware has been discovered trying to extort money from users in Germany by accusing them of viewing child pornography. It’s a horrendous scare tactic to employ, but it’s also one that seems like it could be incredibly effective in deceiving innocent surfers. When confronted with such a horrific accusation, there’s no doubt that some would move quickly to comply in whatever way they were told was necessary. After all, who are they going to go to for help? The warning has been designed to look official and totally legitimate. And it’s not as though being anonymously accused of viewing underage porn on the web is a topic most are going to be comfortable discussing with… well, anyone. The lowlifes who foist malware upon unsuspecting Internet users aren’t stupid. They know scare tactics work — and this is about as scary as it can get. |

There was a program out there talking about making too much avaiable information on the net (facebook) where people not so nice would end up exploiting the innocent. Or in this case the foolish and immature. What a shame they had to go through this and what idiots that they allowed themselves to get into such a situation to begin with.
