A blast went off on Sunday evening in the southern area of al-Fawwar between al-Hallousiyeh, Badyas and Deir Qanoun al-Nahr, Future TV reported.

Citing reports, the TV network said Israeli aircraft might have detonated an electronic transmission device.

“Hizbullah has cordoned off the area,” Future TV added.

Earlier on Sunday, state-run National News Agency reported “intensive Israeli mock raids at medium altitude over the southern areas of Nabatiyeh, Iqlim al-Tuffah, Marjeyoun and Khiyam."

BEIRUT (AP) — Lebanese troops have sealed off a town near the Syrian border after attackers ambushed an army force, killing two soldiers and wounding others, the state-run National News Agency reported Sunday.

The agency said special forces set up checkpoints on roads leading to the town, Arsal. Troops were also deployed in fields around the town to try to prevent gunmen from escaping.

The troops were ambushed Friday while trying to detain a fugitive, Khaled Hamid, suspected of involvement in the 2011 kidnapping of seven Estonian tourists. They were abducted in Lebanon's eastern Bekaa Valley and held for nearly four months before being released in July that year.

Embattled President Bashar al-Assad accused Israel on Sunday of trying to destabilize Syria following reported attacks on a weapons convoy and a military research base outside Damascus last week.



Assad vowed that his regime will retaliate as his allies rushed to denounce the strike which threatened to take the conflict beyond Syria’s borders.
