I wouldn't be putting peroxide in my mouth, sorry - research things a little better people.

Re: Brushing teeth w/baking soda: once or twice a day?
i put baking soda on my toothpaste for a couple years now. I smoke so it doesn't get rid of the stains, but I believe it keeps it down. I've seen some light stains go away.

My teeth also feel very smooth after brushing with baking soda. Not quite the same with just regular toothpaste.

Oh I do it twice a day.

My girlfriend refuses to do that though cause she says the baking soda is abrasive and will erode your enamel. Of course this comes from dentists who probably don't research the benefits and want you to come back for your expensive cleanings.

I used peroxide a few times but it made my gums hurt really really bad, like a dentist drilling your tooth, but the pain is way up in your gum. I quit after a few episodes of that, definitely doesn't feel right.

try dissolving the baking soda in household hydrogen peroxide 3% solution

Nice....... baking soda and bleach...
 Quoting: Jasper

Hydrogen peroxide is not bleach. Bleach contains Chlorine. H2O2 does not.

Hydrogen peroxide can be used as a bleaching agent...

wow, you really didn't follow your own advice and read the article you cite did you:

"Concern regarding hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)) carcinogenicity arises from its ability to act as a strong oxidizing agent. In short-term genotoxicity tests, H(2)O(2) has given predominantly positive results; however, these assays have been performed using either bacterial strains engineered to be exquisitely sensitive to oxidant damage, or mammalian cells deficient in antioxidant enzymes. Significantly, the addition of antioxidant protective measures (normally present in vivo) to these assay systems protects against H(2)O(2) genotoxicity. In most whole animal studies, H(2)O(2) exposure neither initiates nor promotes tumors. In mice, however, 0.4% H(2)O(2) in drinking water was reported to induce hyperplastic lesions of the duodenum and to erode areas in the glandular stomach epithelium. Owing to the chemistry of dilute H(2)O(2) solutions and the anatomy/physiology of the gastrointestinal tract, it is unlikely that orally ingested H(2)O(2) reaches the duodenum. Instead, greatly decreased water consumption and the resultant abrasion of the luminal lining on ingestion of pelleted dry rodent chow is the most likely cause of the observed gastric and duodenal lesions following H(2)O(2) administration in drinking water. Significantly, when hamsters received high doses of H(2)O(2) by gastric intubation (and water intake was not affected), the gastric and duodenal epithelia appeared normal. In-depth analysis of the available data supports the conclusion that oral ingestion of H(2)O(2) should not be considered a carcinogenic threat."

And no one is even saying to drink it. We are talking about using enough to turn baking soda into paste.

does it keep your teeth nice and white?
 Quoting: Jasper

My teeth actually got much whiter when I started. I do 3TBSP Baking Soda 2TBSP, cold press extra virgin coconut oil, 10 drops of Grape Seed Extract, 20 drops peppermint, and 1TBPS Xylitol for flavor.

So far so good and at my 1 year check up zero cavities and hardly any buildup.

bah meant to say 2TBSP baking soday and 3TBSP coconut oil...you might need to add more if it's not the right consistency.

Re: Brushing teeth w/baking soda: once or twice a day?
CAREFUL OP!
I was using baking soda with water for years, and happy with it until my teeth become sensitive, almost like I needed a root canal. The top of a couple of teeth became more sensitive to cold things as if the enamel was becoming thin. I buy the lest expensive natural tooth paste with the least ingredients without fluoride and use just a tiny bit of it.
You will find a happy medium, just do not over due the soda.

Re: Brushing teeth w/baking soda: once or twice a day?
No problem....it took about 3 months to feel the effects but I went from terrible teeth (spare teeth crushed my lower jaw) to better feeling teeth. Not perfect and I doubt it ever will be BUT I haven't felt this good with my teeth in 5 years.

One thing I was told that can help is to use Liquid Castille Soap about 1TBSP....never tried it but I was told it helps kill bacteria.

I also use a baking soda mouth wash after I brush/floss. 1TBSP per 16oz of water (rather vile but beats all the chemicals)

Re: Brushing teeth w/baking soda: once or twice a day?
I already mentioned this in the original post, but just wanted to clarify: My method so far has been putting one (level) teaspoon in a cup and stirring in a little less than a cup (around 200ml) of warm water and rinsing my mouth/dipping the brush in repeatedly during actual brushing. It never really felt all that abrasive at this dilution rate, though I can easily imagine how some people would overdo it by making an actual paste (though it's [probably] still a safer alternative to drugstore whitening kits, albeit only if used very sporadically).

It would work better if once you put the baking soda on your teeth you took a gulp of white cider vinegar to rinse with.

Re: Brushing teeth w/baking soda: once or twice a day?
^^That is funny as hell, but would the actual solution (once fizzed out) be a viable brushing solution? I'm stoned as hell and just throwing this out...

I also would like to add that I've gotten in the habit of gargling plain salt water once or twice a week lately. If it's good enough to clean out the gums after getting a tooth pulled, then maybe it has a beneficial effect on controlling bacteria if used periodically? Again, this is one of those "harmless" things that would probably do more bad than good if overdone...
Reader.

Definitely whiter than they were on regular toothpaste (I never purposelly commited to any BS whitening product regimen so can't compare to those). My thinking has been that the soda's alkaline properties further the whitening effects though its mechanical abrassiveness + wonky brushing techniques may counteract the benefits of using it to some extent...

Dip your brush in the bottle of peroxide, dip it in the box of baking soda and brush lightly, don't go at too hard except for the gums, inner mouth and tongue and it's primo.......only slightly rinse and feel the clean.......also good for your gut......

Yes, please research things a little better. Did you bother reading the last sentence? "In-depth analysis of the available data supports the conclusion that oral ingestion of H(2)O(2) should not be considered a carcinogenic threat."

Food grade H2O2 is perfectly safe. Never consume the 3% H2O2 that you get in the store, as it is full of additives. Food grade (generally 35%) is used regularly by the food industry to clean produce. It must be diluted before using.

I second this recipe...but I use equal parts of baking soda, coconut oil, and calcium magnesium powder. I also add sea salt (1 tsp). Teeth CAN remineralize.

I read where tooth decay can be reversed by taking raw butter ( or butter oil capsules) and cod liver oil, plus additional Vitamin K and Vitamin D.

I am starting this protocal and will see if it works.

I can assure you that you will be very, very disappointed.

Why do you say this? Do you have proof that this does not work?

Yep.
30 years as a physiologist.

But more importantly, do you have any proof that it DOES work?

(Testimonies aren't proof by the way).
