Brushing teeth w/baking soda: once or twice a day?
So I've been doing the baking soda toothpaste-substitute thing for about a year now, twice a day (1tsp/~200ml), and have been very pleased with it throughout the course and am definitely not ever going back to anything with fluoride. Though lately I've been wondering, would once a day (before bed) be enough? "Common knowledge" says that tooth enamel can't heal itself or 'absorb' minerals, though many people have come to doubt this and with due reason. I rarely drink sweetened/acidified beverages during a routine day and instead sip on water enough to rinse away accumulated acids and larger food bits, so I figured maybe brushing the second time is just abrading them for no real benefit. Would simply rinsing with the soda solution in the morning and brushing at night be enough? Would like to hear some thoughts on this, especially from other long-term converts...

Definitely whiter than they were on regular toothpaste (I never purposelly commited to any BS whitening product regimen so can't compare to those). My thinking has been that the soda's alkaline properties further the whitening effects though its mechanical abrassiveness + wonky brushing techniques may counteract the benefits of using it to some extent...

me do once a day before sleep, much whiter than plain tp.
warning, first week will taste like someone shit in your mouth while brushing, but as most bacteria removed, taste is hardly noticable, just a little salty.

In addition to bak soda, I also gargle with vodka. My dentist says it's fine. No cavities in many years.

I read where tooth decay can be reversed by taking raw butter ( or butter oil capsules) and cod liver oil, plus additional Vitamin K and Vitamin D.

I am starting this protocal and will see if it works.

Re: Brushing teeth w/baking soda: once or twice a day?
Dr. Ellie, DDS has some really interesting information:

One can do a google search to listen to her interviews.

[link to www.drellie.com]

Bacteria cause dental disease.
These organisms thrive in a dry, acidic mouth and cause bad breath, plaque build-up, gingivitis, and weakened teeth. Acids from bacteria erode tooth enamel which leads to sensitivity, cavities and discoloration.

Mouth acidity is measured in the pH of saliva. A pH above 7.0 is a safe, alkaline state. A pH below 7.0, it is acidic. The root surfaces of teeth can be damaged when acidity drops below 6.5 and tooth enamel erodes if levels fall to pH 5.5. The longer teeth remain in acidic saliva, the greater the damage from demineralization. Yet, when saliva levels are alkaline, teeth can strengthen and repair through a natural process of tooth remineralization. The longer the mouth pH remains alkaline, the greater opportunity for teeth to repair themselves.

Mouth pH can fluctuate for a number of reasons related to diet, body chemistry and hormones, climate, or mouth dryness. Anything that causes a drop in the mouth pH to make it acidic or to cause mouth dryness is a risk factor for dental disease. The greater your risk for dental disease, the more protection you will need to keep your teeth safe from damage.

I use both baking soda dissolved in water as alkaline mouthwash AND high-quality flouride toothpaste (trying to not to swallow a drop) so I'm fully guarded.

Well, I would like to have new teeth though (after 40), they are grinded down after four decades, damn it! lol

Just make sure you properly dissolve it, or else you are pretty much rubbing sand paper on your teeth. hf

It would work better if once you put the baking soda on your teeth you took a gulp of white cider vinegar to rinse with.

Re: Brushing teeth w/baking soda: once or twice a day?
I've been brushing with baking soda once or twice a day for about 10-12 months. And, i'll never go back to brushing with toothpaste. Why? Because my teeth have never been cleaner & whiter. Try for yourself . All l do is put a tablespoon or so in a glass add water, so that it becomes a liquid & brush, easy as that!

Twice a day for me. Three if I've eaten something sticky/sweet, which isn't often. My father, who had the nicest teeth I've ever seen, and NO cavities, only used baking soda.

I have very white teeth (brush with baking soda at least twice/day). I don't smoke, which helps too.

Re: Brushing teeth w/baking soda: once or twice a day?
I have two jars of B.C in the bathroom, one near the shower for washing my hair and body, the other near the sink for brushing my teefs.

When I brush my teefs all I do is wet the toofbrush and stick it straight into the BC, then I put it straight in my mouth and brush as normal.

I seem to get a plaque buildup very quickly and BC gets rid of it , while any form of toofpaste does not.

I have nearly lost a front toof because of inadequate toofpaste

Its BC for me, whenever I get the urge to brush...when I was using toofpaste I would brush up to 5 times a day...with BC, I seem to only want to brush twice and sometimes three times a day.
