Biggest ever soccer match fixing scandal uncovered - over 380 international games were bogus
A criminal ring suspected of fixing 380 matches, including World Cup qualifying games, has been smashed by police in Europe.

The matches included European Championship qualifiers, two Champions League games and some top flight league matches.

One Champions League match played in England was among the games fixed.

Rob Wainwright, head of the European police agency Europol, said the investigation had identified about 425 corrupt officials, players and serious criminals in 15 countries.

It had uncovered "match fixing activity on a scale we have not seen before", he said.

Most of the fixed matches were played in Turkish, German and Swiss championships, but other matches around the world are also concerned.

Inquiries found evidence that a Singapore-based crime group was closely involved, spending up to 100,000 euros (£86,000) per match to bribe players and officials.

The suspected countries in which those matches were held are, Switzerland, Germany, Turkey, and other South American nations.

Torchia was born in 1620. He was apprenticed in Leyden under the Elzevir family. After returning to Venice he published small works on philosophical and esoteric themes. In 1666, Torchia published De Umbrarum Regni Novem Portis (The Nine Doors to the Kingdom of Shadows), which was in turn based on the Delomelanicon, or Invocation of Darkness, a work supposedly written by Lucifer and that would allow the reader to summon devils. The Inquisition condemned Torchia for magic and witchcraft and burned him at the stake in 1667.

BREAKING_

Police have smashed a criminal network suspected of fixing 380 football matches, including in the Champions League and World Cup qualifiers, Europol announced on Monday.
"It is clear to us that this is the biggest investigation ever into suspected match fixing,'' Europol chief Rob Wainwright told journalists, AFP reports.
At least 425 referees, players and other officials are suspected of involvement, with matches rigged so that major sums of money could be won through betting.
Most of the allegedly fixed matches were played in Turkish, German and Swiss championships, but other matches around the world are also concerned.
Two of Europe's Champions League matches and some World Cup qualifiers are also suspected, Europol said.
Europol showed television coverage of a suspect match, an international between Argentina and Bolivia, during which a Hungarian referee awards a highly dubious pena
lty.

Obviously the game has been corrupt for ages now. Don't you find it odd how man city won the title in the 93min of the last match? Don't you find it odd how a team like chelsea won the champions league last year? Football is nothing more that a money laundering scheme for rich billionaire owners.

Mexico is the ABSOLUTE WORST THIEF IN LATIN SOCCER- MEXICO STOLE A WORLD CUP FROM COLOMBIA IN 1986 - THRU TELEVISA AND ADIDAS.

AND YOUR GOLD MEDAL IS WORTHLESS AND 85% SILVER SO DO SOME RESEARCH - The TELEVISA and GLOBO merger means thats the biggest COMMUNICATIONS CONGLOMERATE ON THE PLANET.

But no it wasnt fixed so Brazil and Mexico would play the final for the gold plated silver medals.

Strangely no I don't!

Think about what you're saying, certainly about Man City.
If they'd been awarded a last minute penalty or something like that well fair enough. But they weren't.
If it was a one-off match then fair enough but it's over 38 matches.
If they were the only rich team in the league then fair enough.
But what about Man United and Chelsea. Also Liverpool to some extent.
Ergo, in relation to the English Prem I would suggest your argument is invalid.

I can't really comment on the Champion's League other than to say why didn't any of the extremely wealthy sides do well in it?

Re: Biggest ever soccer match fixing scandal uncovered - over 380 international games were bogus
The only reason soccer isn't big in the US is that the Networks haven't figured out a way to monetize a sport that has no commercial breaks, timeouts and except for fifteen minute half, continuous play. Through the likes of Jim Rome, they actively discourage soccer because it would be a ratings disaster if it supplanted US Football, Baseball, etc.

So long as Americans don't mind sitting around for three and half hours to watch an hour of football or two and half hours for a hours of basketball, then Soccer doesn't stand a chance. Sooner or later, though, watching more commercials than actual sport will take its toll on viewers. There was a time you could watch a full hoops game in 90 minutes and football game in two hours. Talk about greed and gullibility.
