Demeaning to the extreme or at least something beyond calling someone a bitch I would imagine.

I've been here for a while, I've only gotten in 'trouble' once and tagged for an abusive post. It wasn't for demeaning someone though..it was for suggesting illegal activity.

I thought someone else said they were banned for 3 days without any explanation.

They didn't tell me why.

I knew after I posted the comment it would probably be removed and I'd get an abusive post karma. You can't talk about committing crimes here and you can't post things that would encourage others to do so. I've been around long enough to know better.

I was agitated at the time though and just didn't care.

What is abusive?

Spam, Porn, Call outs against members, threats of bodily injury/death, heavy trolling & shilling, racial slurs, etc.

I also remove posts using the "c" word.

We check out every report to make certain the thread/post is abusive. Also, please note that if someone abuses the report function in an effort to harass another member by making bogus reports, they can land in time out as well.

I still believe in Free Speech, so opionated freaks (like myself) can pretty much say whatever they want, and I don't touch that. We can always start a second thread if we happen to disagree with them, right? This is one of the few places left where we CAN have a strong opinion!

However, I use the abusive button for staunching some of the flow of deliberate commercial postings, porn or typed gibberish (the gibberish stuf is usually from China, for some reason). There are tons of those kinds of posts - actually seems to be getting worse as GLP becomes better known.

The typed gibberish, apparently, is an attempt to get a foothold into the system for launching malware, so that is important, if you spot one, to report immediately.

The commercial postings just clog the system, so getting rid of those helps GLP readers, too, and I mostly just do this as I see it, and if I feel like it that day.

I can't afford a membership, here or anywhere else, but after a few months of scanning the threads, and reporting a few as I seem them, I usually have enough karma pts to use to pin a good thread that might otherwise be lost, and that is a great feeling to get those really good posts pinned up at the top of the page.
