First of all, what kind of degrees are we talking about? Liberal arts? A P.H.D. in philosophy? I mean, give me a break. I bet there's nobody with a Nursing degree out of work. We all make our choices in life. Too many times people have been told fairy tales about "you can be anything you want to be" and "reach for the stars". Well thats all great and everything, but make sure you have something to fall back on before you chase your dream in Horticulture.

Re: Hundreds of thousands of Master's degree holders, PhDs on food stamps
I'm trying to figure out why an advanced degree makes someone special? You have someone that made a bad choice and are out of work BIG DEAL!!!

A degree of any sort DOES NOT make you automatically marketable! I think that's the biggest mistake most make when deciding to go to collage they think it does.

THEN they want to complain about student loans that they took out knowing full well they would have a debt before they even started. HHHHMMMMM that doesn't sounds like intelligence to me it sounds more like an extremely bad Vegas bet!

THEN you have those unemployed that WON'T work unless it's in their specific degree and wage standards. NO SYMPATHY HERE!

I think there are many out there that need to flush their head gear if they want survive off of food stamps! HOPEFULLY public assistance such as food stamps will be cut off to those with the ability to work that includes those with advanced degrees!!!!!!

COME ON you advanced degree out of work people use some of that SO CALLED intelligence to create your own jobs!!

I was just watching a show the other day with my hubby that was talking about how 70% of teachers in Canada are not full time employed.. We are hoping to get both our son and daughter into a trade. Even with the demand in trades though, here in Canada, employers want you to have 5 years experience before they will sign you on, after apprenticeship. They are preferring to hire experienced trade from Europe then take on the apprentice here! Hard times.

Re: Hundreds of thousands of Master's degree holders, PhDs on food stamps
When will people realise that they (TPTB) have shut off the normal healthy fractional lending system that promotes employment, investment and output (unsteerable money) for the printing press (Steerable money) so that they can direct the financial support to their generational wealth protecting it from implosion ?

When ?grumpy2
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33034699

First of all, I would say that fractional reserve lending is only healthy when it is free from all government guarantees and backstopping. That also means that depositors may lose money from time to time when imprudent banks make bad decisions and lose money, the depositors money.

But in this new socialist norm where everyone is given false promises that the government has their back, the banks are free to take capital and speculate in market sectors that are not healthy. In fact they tend to speculate in the most un-healthy sectors (umm DOW) as that offers the greatest short term payoffs (bubbles).

So, the real question is when are people going to wake up and realize that no matter what you do, you can never eliminate risk. And in fact, risk sets interest rates and yields profit as well as loss. Depositors need to do their own due diligence before they place their money in banks. But, again in our new socialist norm we are freed from having to think for ourselves.

I hear that technical/vocational education is more valuable right now, along with the ability to find a need and fill it by starting your own small business, rather than trying to find the usual jobs we are used to from the past.

Here in San Diego County, the Sheriff's Department has been advertising all over that they are hiring (my brother just got a technical job with them this week) and that they will continue to hire to fill 2,000 new positions - what does that tell you?

Hey dipshit, there are 46 million Americans on foodstamps.

[link to finance.yahoo.com]

Of the 46 million, there are 300,000 that have masters or PhDs. That is 6.52*10^-3% or 0.652% of the total population of people on foodstamps that have graduate educations. The rest, about 99.348%, are dumbfucks like you who believe that 300,000 is significant.

They can always get a laboring job.
 Quoting: ~IS~

Honestly, this isn't the answer. I have a college degree. I've worked everywhere from digging in the dirt, laying gas lines to working in an air conditioned office. Not everyone can do labor jobs. When I worked in laboring jobs, I was fortunate to be of good health and in decent shape, so I could handle the work demands. I did see some new hires come in who couldn't handle the work. They just physically couldn't do it. A lot of educated people who are looking for work and never worked in a labor job probably can't handle it. They don't have the endurance to do it. You can't expect someone who can only bench press 100 lbs. to bench 200 lbs. You can't expect someone to run 10 miles when they can only run 1 mile. You can't expect someone who has been an indoors person all their life to work a full day outdoors. They will probably have a heat stroke in the summer.

The problem is this country has been sold out. The problem is this country outsources most jobs that our baby boomer parents had as they built their life. The problem is that the only booming industry in the private sector is probably something to do with health care, so the more sick people the better for the economy.

Another problem is that college has become big business and fools people into thinking their degree is a golden ticket to the American dream. A student can sit down with an adviser in the basket weaving department and that adviser will tell them they can be successful with a basket weaving degree. Kids in high school are told that going to college allows them to capture the American dream. They are warned that if they don't get educated, they'll be the dreaded burger flipping loser or broom pusher. Now those same people don't understand why someone with a degree doesn't want to flip burgers or push a broom lol. This country is fucked.

Also dipshits, according to wiki 10.95% of Americans have a masters, doctorate, or professional degree.

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

In a population of nearly 314 million, that is about 34,383,000, or 3.4383*10^7, people with graduate level educations. Of this large population, only 300,000 use food stamps. That is 8.73*10^-3%, or 0.873%, of the people with graduate degrees who are on food stamps. This means that 99.127% of people with graduate degrees are not on food stamps.

I will take those odds and continue to fund my education dipshits.

I'd like to see what percentage of those people got their advanced degrees from ITT tech, Phoenix, and other laughing stock so called universities. There must be tens of thousands of such people. They soon learn that the degrees aren't worth the paper they're written on.....yet federal aid can still be used to attend such schools.

I'd also like to see the break down of what the degrees were in. Music? Art? Journalism?

I'd imagine if BS degrees and degrees from BS schools were stripped out of the data things wouldn't look nearly so bad.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33621064

THANK YOU!! I'm so tired of people not realizing there is a DIFFERENCE between a degree from Harvard vs the laughingstock that is the 'University' of Phoenix et al. Nothing more than rip off diploma mills...

Health care always has openings as long as people are sickened and poisoned by big pharma and aspartame .

If people learned preventative measures and natural healing and herbs. Health care wouldnt be as needed.

Again, another big scam.

A lot of people erroneously believe that it matters what degree you have. People are choosing "bad degrees". This mantra was correct 20 years ago.

But things have changed.

There are many tens of thousands of people with very hard (and otherwise good) degrees graduating every year.

Law, finance, computer science, mathematics, hard science, engineering.

These people can't find jobs. Know why? Because there are 500,000 new graduates and only 10k new jobs.

Food for thought.

I fully agree. I personally don't have much left over after bills are paid but I do not go running to the government begging. In fact I find it strange how many blacks can go sign up for food stamps and welfare checks yet can afford designer clothes, and hairdo's along with fancy finger nails with gemstones. Oh and the cars they ride around in make me sick. I still have a 20 year old car and can't afford anything new, yet they can afford a brand new car once a year. I mean WTF?
