What Is Really Going On In Syria: Insider Update

In this article Boris Dolgov, a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Oriental Studies in Moscow, reports on his recent trip to Syria. His field investigation is particularly valuable since most of the information about Syria in recent months has emanated from Beirut, Paris or London. Professor Dolgov confirms that, far from a contrived "Arab Spring" scenario, Syria is undeniably grappling with the threat of foreign occupation. He observes that while the offensive is inordinately violent, the population will not be intimidated. Aware of the disaster wrought by NATO "humanitarian" operations in Yugoslavia and Libya, the Syrians refuse to be drawn into a sectarian ambush. A process of reform and development is on track, but it will not be dictated from abroad. In Syria, one may object to the president, but not to national sovereignty.

1) Like Syria, Israel and Lebanon are still technically at war, Lebanon doesn't even "recognize" Israel whatever that means, LOL.... you may have forgotten about that.

2) Lebanonese government looked the other way for decades as terrorists -- first Arafat's Fatahland then Amal, Islamic Jihad & Hezzbollah were TERRORIZING Israel population with artillery, rockets & cross-border attacks. All incidents of deliberately targeting civilian population are instances of a war-crime according to international law --- and we're talking literally 1000 different attacks over the years.

3) Morever, even after the passage of UNSC Resolution 1701 -- an Article VII resolution may I remind you, which makes it both compulsory & enforceable unlike say Article VIII resolution 242 which is merely a glorified "recommendation" by the UN..... far from dis-arming Hzbollah as per 1701, both Iranian, Lebanese AND Syrian governments all but turned South Lebanon into Missile Mecca. And UNIFIL look the other way, as per usual.

4) In light of the outrageously hostile & illegal activities by its enemies I briefly addressed above.....Israel conducts a few surveilance over-flights? Cry me a river, LMAO!

A state that completely rubbles its 5000 year old Capital, in order to kill off a portion of its population, is evidently a very weak state. It has not respect for itself, because it has not power to back up that respect. Its rhetoric is a death-rattle.

Syria simply does not have the power to retaliate. Neither does Iran. Both rely on Russia, they are Russia's vassal states, but Russia is not strong enough to protect its vassals against Israel and the US Military Industrial Complex.

If it were, it would be happy to engage in a new Cold War. But it is currently only in the beginning phase of re-programming its population.

Syria is extremely well-armed and Iran is even more so. Syria alone has 1000 tons of V/X, Sarin (including Saddam's WMD, incidentally). A huge air-force & Air-defense layouts that even rebels couldn't fully degrade in 2 years of fightnig...plus, 1000's of armour & artillery pieces, plus arsenal of Scud C&D, more accurate M600 missiles... not to mention, access to sophisticated Iranian, Russian & Chinese equiipment, including I am sure latest satellite, elint, siginit, humint, etc intel.

The REASON it doesn't retaliate is because

1) it has nothing to retaliate for. There is NO proof Israel did anything, only speculation. Arabs/Muslims/AntiSemites see Jews under every pillow, but falls woefully short of, you know, actual evidence.

2) the usual "Ebbyl Juices blablabla" rhetoric aside...even Syrian scumbags know deep that Israel is the GOOD guys of the region. Muslims are far, far more likely to be killed, tortured, robbed by OTHER Muslims, than by Israelis. They know it deep down, too. Truth talks, while bullshit walks.

3) Syria retaliates, both it and its boss Iran end up on fire. So that's why they like to have terrorists like Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, Hamas, PRC, PFLP do their bidding -- for deniability, or so they *think*.

As it stands it would seem to give Syria the right (obligation even) to update it's defenses to a degree that the put travel on public roads under the rules of Martial Law and the have a system that is able to prevent attacks from the air as well as via the roads.

Be worth clearing things up like if the incoming missile cannot be intercepted is taking out the launch location a universal 'plan b' option that would be upheld in the ICC as 'legal'.
If Israel lost 6/6 on a similar raid 6 months down the road would Israel say the sites seemed to be secure enough and leave it at that? Going bezerk might not be wise at that stage either.
