Welcome to the 2013 ammo shortage.

We all should have bought more ammo and magazines 12 months ago.

Is it simply a "shortage," or are we talking about something far worse?

OP, it might be wise to buy any ammo you can get your hands on. You can always trade later when there is no ammo left on store shelves.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25736464

Trading: very good advise. I don't want to sound as though I'm ammo-destitute. I don't like to shoot what I've got socked away, so I like to make a purchase now and again that I can shoot guilt-free. I suspected the government would take away the ammo before they could ever get their hands on the firearms. But where have we seen any kind of announcement? Because all indications suggest there is something afoot that goes well beyond excessive demand. Especially since prices were already high. And yet, any mainstream discussion of this is verboten

The shelves here in ND are empty. 9mm is sold out everywhere. I never let my supply fall below 1000 rnds. for each gun I own. One place has a bunch of .380 ammo. I buy what they had but they limited me to 4 boxes. So I'm stopping by once a day buying 4 boxes at a time till there gone. I dont even own anything that fires .380. They will be worth gold before long.

I'll bet there will be some juicy information shared at this:

[link to www.ndia.org]

3650 - Advance Planning Briefing to Industry – 2013 Munitions Executive Summit
02/26/2013 - 02/28/2013, Atlanta, GA
"Maintaining a Responsive Munitions Enterprise…Persevering in an Uncertain Landscape"
Bringing together…Industry executives, key Government acquisition leaders, program managers, research and technology centers, and academia.

You will be provided…
• Insight and perspectives on concerns and issues affecting the munitions industrial base.
• Engagement with government and industry leadership dedicated to shaping the future state of the ammunition enterprise.
• Networking contacts, partnerships, and connections to government and industry stakeholders.

I'm also guessing information won't be leaking.

I called Cabelas near me yesterday and they wouldn't even tell me what they had in the store. Ain't that a bitch? Mind you, I live about 40+ miles away. Thank God I found some though at a shooting range after searching and calling for an hour.

Not true!

I just got back from town and the small gun shop there is packed to the rafters with ammo and reloading supplies!

I won't tell you where because I own the place and I'm not going to advertise.

Think smaller out of the way mom and pop shops, we are 60 miles from the big city and mostly deal with locals and out of town hunters. OOOHHH and look for small signs our store front sign is 2'X4' with just a name and doesn't mention weapons at all.

That's why we still have ammo!!!!!!!!!!! and are in the black!!!!

i stocked up a decent stash before the shit hit the fan. But honestly not enough to feel comfortable with going to the range with

I have broken out my G&G M4 airsoft gun that i paid 500 for a few years ago. It has blowback that mimics recoil, and is fun and cheap to play with, since it shoots 6mm plastic bb's and is electric, full auto fun for target practice

NO 22 caliber ammunition at the Cabellas yesterday, super bowl Sunday, south of Olympia, WA. (Think it is the Lacey store.) Was there with husband. He picked up some other ammo, but we had to ask an employee since we couldn't find any 22 and he said they were out. All "assault" type weapons were "out of stock". Many people buying other guns. Ammo shelves were bare in some areas, but they looked about 2/3 to half full in general.

I haven't been into Wal-Mart or any of my other, ordinary haunts lately, but I'm guessing there's got to be some ammo avcailable in common calibers.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33393954

No way. I check the 3 closest WallyWorlds around me and they have been empty of ammo for 2 months now. I get there 7am on the incoming truck days, and what little comes never even makes the shelves. 7:15 and gone.

Got to Academy 10 minutes before they opened and already a dozen people in line at the door for ammo.

Hell, I can't even find reload equipment. Gone! Forget primers and boolits.

I went to Walmart last week to get some ammo to go hunting on the weekend...this is what I found:

IMAGE ( [link to i45.tinypic.com] )

They also had a policy posted restricting the amount of ammo you can buy:

IMAGE ( [link to i48.tinypic.com] )

I asked the clerk if it was because of demand or because Walmart wasn't ordering more. He replied:

"Well, at first it was because people were buying so much but now it seems like Walmart isn't placing orders for more."

Just 3 problems with your logic:

1) I don't have to prove anything to you!
2) I don't need or want your business because we don't cater to ASSHOLES!!!!!
3) I don't need the business period we have enough regulars already!

If you wanted or needed the ammo or weapons I would think you just might want to check your attitude at the door!!!!!!!!!!!

Well your small hidden away store might have some, but not for long.

People will find you.

Our local small stores in L.A. are all but out, and we were told by one owner that what he has is all he's got coming until 2015! Said manufacturing contracts are all bought up till then.

And he was ought of most.

I've heard too many reports of ammo shortages to believe that you have regular customers AND fully stocked shelves.

I will believe that a smaller out of the way store is likely to have older ammo in stock since it hasn't been noticed during the recent roundup.

If you needed to re-stock all ammo, would your wholesale dealer be able to do so?

You might be in for a surprise if you try.
