If I threw a cookie at a clerk in the 70's , I wouldn't have been the least bit concerned about the whuppin the clerk gave me. it would have 3 times worse at home when my momma go done beating my ass
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24291937

I'm with you on that. I think beating with a belt was extreme, but I would have at least whipped a few cookies right back at his sorry face. Can't imagine assault charge for throwing cookies. You gotta be smart in this world if you want to get your point across.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33761641

I can count those sort of whuppings on one hand , and I was far from a model child.
Hell the fuckers today would have me doing the welbutrin shuffle or some shit and really going postal around age 22 from all that nasty toxic fuckery brain damage.

bad parenting?

Sorry, but most ADULTS would have done far WORSE than this little boy did, if they went shopping in a store and some redneck hillbilly minimum wage cashier started calling them a demon. It wouldn't be a cookie I'd be throwing at the bitch, I'll tell you what.

I am sure he was called a demon for saying "Thank you ma'am." or "May I help you with that?"

Are you one of those parents whose kids are screaming in the supermarket and who we all want to throw cookies (or worse) at?

Glad someone beat the little bastard. I hope you whiners realized that he OPENED a box of cookies that he wasn't buying to have a cookie to throw and hurled a pack of batteries at her and hid behind the counter(employees only) all the while screaming for his per bless mommas help. I for one support the DG employee for trying to pelrevent the raising of amother worthless criminal. Kids like him shoot up schools because they never get in trouble. The police are charging a hero with abuse. F that little demon and his momma.
Ya don't like it, f you too. Respect the rest of us enough to whip your heathens.

Yeah, I feel sure the DG employee didn't just hunt him down an aisle to call him a "demon" for no good reason, so that THEN he opened a box of cookies to throw.
He forgot to tell what it was he was doing to get her attention in the first place.

I don't agree with her spanking him.
He'll be a bigger problem to his parents as time rolls on.
She should have escorted him out of the store.

As soon as I saw the dad, I knew it was clearly a case of bad parenting. There is probably more to this story as well.

Maybe the kid did act like a little hell spawn, maybe not. Either way, you bet your ass NO ONE is going to spank my child. Also, from the news story, he was hit with the belt 25 times. TWENTY FIVE TIMES, struck with a belt, by a STRANGER. That is nuts.

Let's call them all useless and pathetic and call it a day.

HOWEVER, my child would NEVER be allowed to get away with behavior that would warrant a clerk TALKING with him/her in a cross manner...let alone needing to call the child a DEMON.

I raised a child who would never throw an object at an adult. The consequences for that behavior go without saying. My child would not have even dared to talk back to an adult.

People who raise children like that should be held accountable in some way for their kids irritating and downright damaging behavior (throwing objects at people CAN hurt. Today a cookie, tomorrow a knife). People who raise children like that SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY KIDS.

The sweet southern lady is being charged with assault.

This story has it all:

Pissed off /crazy Dollar Store clerk

A lil' demon ... er, child. Accents you can cut with a chainsaw [RELAX...I have a strong accent, too.]

And what's that smell? Oh yeah, lawsuit.

Seriously, I'd be beyond Bullshit if a store clerk 'spanked' my child.

And yeah...my point was I would also have had my beating from parents if I threw a cookie at a clerk. Clerk's reaction would be LAST of my worries

If I was shopping, and someone called my boy a DEMON repeatedly , I can't say I'd scold my child for throwing a little cookie at them.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 801546

You wouldn't scold your child for throwing something at a food clerk? People like you are probably the reason kids like that exist. Don't think the clerks reaction was right at all but don't think the kid was innocent in this either.

He's a little kid. Where the heck were the parents during all this? It always comes down to bad parenting. They let their kid run wild without supervision and something bad happens to him. Oh, boo, hoo.

Just broke up an eleven year old friendship over this very thing.

I scolded my friend and she tried to tell me "they are just children."

It wasn't about her children it was the way she handled the situation as a parent.

This sort of thing happens because baby boomers were taught that it is OK to think you are "better" and "more experienced" than someone who is younger than you.

They so often find themselves wrong, that pretty soon they are dialing up the "strength" of verbal assertions of superiority.

All you assholes who say "No one better be spanking MY keeeds" I guess would prefer the store clerk had done the politically correct, Dr Spock approved thing:

CALL THE FUCKING COPS. The brat would have been arrested for ASSAULT (by cookie), vandalism, and malicious mischief. Possibly shoplifting, too. You (the moronic PC parents) would have to go through all the trauma of a long court case. The brat would be taken from you, only returned to you once he was good and drugged up after he was diagnosed with ADHD. Then he could be drugged until he was eighteen, BY LAW, until his little brain was mush.

That's what you would rather have happen, right? Fucking idiots.

After TSHTF, kids like this will just get their idiot heads chopped off on the spot.

Reminds me of my Aunt Pat. She was a tall, thick, sassy Blackfeet Indian with long cole black hair, from chicago! Me, My Mom, Aunt Pat & her 2 boys and Aunt Pats daughter were all in Kmart about 35 yrs ago.

There was a boy around 10,Maybe 11yrs old and he wAS running thru the store like a heathen! Aunt Pat thought it was Karl and Juan (her 2 boys) and that kid ran straight through that gondola of clothes and Aunt Pat drew back and rolled his little head. We all stood there in disbelief at what she had just done, shocked and not moving, and that poor kids eyeballs got so big .Aunt Pat apologised to him for the mixup & for smacking him ...she told him to go find his parents and to stay out of the clothes racks and NO more running through the store.

the kid brought his Ma over to us in the store and My Aunt told the mother he was running through all the clothes racks and she thought it was her boys so she was going to smack the sh*t out of whoever came out of that rack.

The kids mom looked at my aunt and said "thank You" She said he was always wild and would not listen to her for nothing. She said the 4 minute walk thru the store to find us was the first time ever he didnt run away from her in the store and said he stuck to her side like gorilla glue.

But hey, my Motto is "Unattended children will be sold as slaves"...Aunt Pat never ever reared her hand in a store again.

I think this^^^ is the case. And the way the kid tells the story it is like it is perfectly normal to throw stuff at someone after they call you a name. Not to mention sassing back to adults by saying "I'll show you a demon" before chucking the cookie at her. Where was mom or dad? Why is it that dad says he watched the video? Because he didn't witness it in person. So who was with the little demon? I see scenarios of ill behaved children in public regularly. Respect for their parents, or adults in general, is gone. God help us in another 20 years when they have little demons of their own and they are running the country.
