Quoting: wisc_natureboy I think that is great. But there are downsides to everyplace. For instance, I've read that almost 90% of you all live within 100 miles of the USA border. So yeah, it gets cold and you have Winter. What else? Do you need a supplementary health insurance policy? Is car insurance mandatory? ( I imagine so) How much? I pay about 25$ a month for liability for 1 car and 35$ for the other. Is food taxed? I've seen property taxes are nearly comparable to Wisconsin. (Expensive- 2,0-3,0% mil rates) Tobacco and booze are way more expensive than here. Do you pay tax on Internet purchases? Can you buy stuff easily from the states via the Interwebs? OK, lots of questions- just curious. Thanks in advance. I can help with part of this, though I'm not from Canada - shipping into Canada isn't any more expensive that within the U.S., except for border crossing fees and taxes, which can make many purchases (I sell furniture) too expensive to buy. However most US products have Canadian distributors which, kind of fixes this problem. Last Edited by Subway Prophets on 02/05/2013 12:18 AM "Sir, are you classified as human?" "Negative. CalmShock User ID: 5056346 Canada 02/05/2013 12:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Insurance is pretty bad up here for sure. For me it is anyway. Where I live there's only 1 tax (Alberta is debt free thanks to our oil) where the other provinces have both federal and provincial taxes. There really isn't much to seriously dislike about living in Canada at all. The pros FAR outweigh the cons. Compared to most other countries (not using any names... you countries know who you are...), we're doing pretty good up here... Patience is a virtue I just can't wait to achieve - CalmShock |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 33538532 Canada 02/05/2013 12:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The VERY WORST thing about living in Canada is the Canadians. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33130922 Beautiful country, shitty people. You see, it's the people that really make a country what it is, and that's why Canada is such a shithole. you should stop looking into a mirror and get out to meet others....your opinion would change quickly. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 27945631 Canada 02/05/2013 12:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The cost to purchase a small home ($800-900K) no kidding. Too many rich foreigners coming in & buying up property and that makes the people who were actually born here unable to afford a home so we move to another province. Sad, isn't it? Not being able to live where you were born, where all your family is. Sad:( |
Mordier L'eft User ID: 33698453 Canada 02/05/2013 12:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yeah, insurance in mandatory. Rates are regulated by the province, and they vary depending on which province you're in. They tax some food, but not others. The prices for everything here are way higher than in the U.S. It gets fuckin' COLD here. It gets down to -40 regularly here in Winnipeg -- and that's the same, Celsius or Fahrenheit. But the WORST is knowing we have all kinds of oil, but end up selling it to the U.S. just to buy it back after refining because we haven't got jack-shit for refineries here. Also, it's not so cool knowing that most of our nuclear reactors are right at the top of the New Madrid. But we have awesome beer, great musicians, hot women and fantastic grass...so I manage to stay happy. --"In this era of great big brains anything that can happen will. So hunker down." -- Kurt Vonnegut, JR. -- Galapagos. |

OK, lots of questions- just curious. Thanks in advance. I live within about 300 miles of the US, We do need supplemental insurance, and car insurance is mandatory, 5000.00 fine if you don't have it. I pay $129.00 for insurance full coverage. Everything in Ontario is taxed, haircuts, food, anything. We pay 13% on all purchases. If you buy a car, and resell it, you have to pay taxes again on the sale price. Smokes from the natives are $4.00 bucks a pack for knockoff brands while regular brands are upwards of $12.00. Beer for the cheap stuff is about $25.00 a case, and the good stuff is about $36.00 or more per case. We pay taxes on everything, internet, and we can buy anything easily enough from the net, but typically we have to pay the %13 per sales taxes. Hope that helps.... |

The taxes are crazy we have a Federal Tax and Provincial , they take almost 35-40% of your salary... We have all the races of humans living in Montreal plus Quebec is said to have some Strange happenings and UFO's sightings. You got to speak french or understand it here or you will be lost... Lots of douchebaggy AppleFanboys lol |
