My uncle's sister's brother's gay cousin works at NASA and said DA14 is going to strike the Earth. My father's brother's mother's neighbor's boss works for the CIA and is warning insiders that DA14 will be a huge disaster. They're both reliable sources of information.

Be prepared!

...and my brothers's gay space alien "friend" came to earth last night to tell him that the Andromedians were told by the Galactic Homo's Federation who claimed that they heard it from Zaphod Beeblebrox who says that people on Earth do not need to worry about the Asteroid at all, because the Vogon's are on their way to 'take care' of the asteroid for us... because they were told by guy named Emporer Palpatine who was apparently getting a blowjob from his apprentice at the time and apparently has the ability to "see the future" and told them that...

This thread is full of shit.
Psalm 90:4 .. 2 Peter 3:8
1 Day to God, is 1000 years on Earth.

Do the Math, Genesis was the Neolithic Revolution!

The 7 "Days" of Creation (including His 1 Day of Rest) were actually 7000 years, add that to the current 6000 Years of the Hebrew Calender dating Genesis to the Present, and you have 12,000 - 14,000 years! Right smack in the middle of the Neolithic Revolution, when the "Homo Sapien" species learned how to... "grow a brain"!

Behold! The Crawling Chaos! Nephren Ka! The Black Pharaoh!

Cthulhu is the High Priest of Azathoth. The high Priest spreads "the word" and prepares "the way", and introduces the religion...
Nyarlathotep is the Harbinger of Azathoth... the Harbinger heralds the imminent arrival of Azathoth!
Azathoth is the insane blind god in the Center of Chaos!

So guess whats coming next...

Behold America running blindly into Chaos! Azathoth comes!

Lot's of questions here.

No real assurances of impact or non impact seem possible.

Even though it seems the officials are playing "size/path" dice, it is still unlikely (not impossible) that DA14 will hit the Earth.

BUT - I think there is a far greater likelihood of it breaking up during its passage (from electrical stress), and fragments of it hitting the planet on their own altered trajectory.

Just my 2 cents...

Excuse me? You do not tell me what to do. It is not my job nor my desire to teach very basic astronomy to someone like that. You are in no position to tell me to respond to "every single opinion or question" of someone who doesn't understand hardly anything about astronomy. I have neither the time nor the desire to do that. I am highly inquisitive though, I do dig very deep when it comes to things like this asteroid's trajectory. That does not involve trying to fix someone else's fundamental misunderstandings. I may point out that they have those misunderstandings, but I am not here to get sidetracked on trying to fix that.

Quite right RL50.

Nobody can say for sure that a boulder rolling down Mt. Everest won't somehow hit my car in NY.
After all, the exact 100% certain position of that boulder isn't known by the scientists so it could hit my car 10000 miles away.
That's what they mean, right?
Right?

Doesn't work like that. Earth's gravity will have the same effect regardless of how much mass the asteroid has. Mass of earth >>>>>>>>>>>> mass of an asteroid. The latter can therefore be disregarded. It's many orders of magnitude too small. If it were a significant fraction of the earth's mass or more massive than earth then it would become relevant to the calculations because it would noticeably pull earth towards itself, but the effect of earth's gravity on the asteroid would still not change.
