I too found many instances in the bible that just made me question who I was planning on serving. But I've always been under the impression we choose the God we want to see by changing our perception. God is everything, we can not perceive everything therefore we must focus on certain aspects or choose our perception of God. Fortunately for me the God I know appears to be a little better then what is described. As I would have a difficult time serving someone who behaved as mentioned.
