the way you know that it isn't made up is the many many prophecies that have been fulfilled over the centuries...very specific, detailed prophecies, among other enormously important and revelatory details that there is no possible way the men of the times could have known by themselves. things like knowing the earth was round, and certain prophets being able to see land masses from the sky, etc.
