Anonymous Coward User ID: 17693691 Canada 02/05/2013 12:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you have cannabis in your blood, it's pretty likely you're a tobacco user. Was tobacco use taken into account here I wonder? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33422860 thankyou. Many factors. The public believe its harmless? What general public told them that. People if you did a little research on your own, first hand and otherwise. You would understand. This debate is no longer valid. Weed is not something for the irresponsible. Neither is learning how to walk. The substance itself improves almost all sickness. Don't believe me try it? Or look it up. Or turn your back to another issue because your ego didn't want to be wrong. Though I don't even know why people pick a side. Do you judge people if they drink? take painkillers or hold money in a bank? The ladder is idiotic if you look at the numbers. Who would put their money in the hands of thiefs in debt? Wouldn't one want to understand something before they invest an opinion with action? Unfortunetly this isn't how people think. They don't understand the process and importance at which information goes through to be understood. They simply take the beginning and end of a subject and formulate an opinion. Not only closing off their own minds but then out of some divine importance, develop the need to speak on behalf of the subject like they didn't stumble upon their convictions after five minutes of thought. Smoke a doobie and go do some chores. Maybe it will make you realize some shit . The silver lining; It won't help you learn, but it will help you discover. Everything in moderation. Rant over. As if this will be read by more than a dozen people anyway ;) |

The study by Auckland University's Centre for Brain Research found stroke patients were 2.3 times more likely to have cannabis detected in urine tests compared with patients of the same age and sex. "This is the first case-controlled study to show a possible link to the increased risk of stroke from cannabis," Professor Alan Barber said. "Cannabis has been thought by the public to be a relatively safe, although illegal substance. This study shows this might not be the case - it may lead to stroke." Prof Barber, the lead investigator for the study, this week presented the findings to the American Stroke Association's International Stroke Conference in Honolulu. "People need to think twice about using cannabis because it can affect brain development and result in emphysema, heart attack and now stroke." Well I can't speak for the US, but it's certainly true that most UK users of cannabis smoke it in joints, with tobacco. A few smoke it neat, but it's much less common to use it that way. |

FYI, it is peer reviewed. And fyi, they don't claim anything more than the facts showed. Obviously, further study is needed. Obviously, it is not now a fact that cannabis use increases your risk of stroke. But in this scientific study, cannabis users were over twice as likely to have a stroke. Could something else have been the culprit, like tobacco use? Yup. Guess what? That is why they will study it more. |
