The study by Auckland University's Centre for Brain Research found stroke patients were 2.3 times more likely to have cannabis detected in urine tests compared with patients of the same age and sex. "This is the first case-controlled study to show a possible link to the increased risk of stroke from cannabis," Professor Alan Barber said. "Cannabis has been thought by the public to be a relatively safe, although illegal substance. This study shows this might not be the case - it may lead to stroke." Prof Barber, the lead investigator for the study, this week presented the findings to the American Stroke Association's International Stroke Conference in Honolulu. "People need to think twice about using cannabis because it can affect brain development and result in emphysema, heart attack and now stroke." Apparently you have trouble reading: "The study by Auckland University's Centre for Brain Research found stroke patients were 2.3 times more likely to have cannabis detected in urine tests compared with patients of the same age and sex." considering the number of Kiwis that smoke the herb I am not surprised. They even have comics in the newspaper of a pot eating snail. Must have been a trick to get patients without cannabis. Government is a body largely ungoverned. |

This is a DUH moment GET SAVED: Thread: Are you SAVED from DAMNATION? "For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another." -- Galatians 5:14-26 |

Was tobacco use taken into account here I wonder? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33422860 Cannabis users have higher rates of tobacco use? Ridiculous. But please prove it if you can. pretty much everywhere outside the us, weed is mixed with tobacco....I'm british, and 99.9% of people I know smoke it with tobacco there. same in france, spain, italy, germany, australia, nz....so I'd take this report with a pinch of salt. |

"We believe it is the cannabis use and not tobacco,'' Prof Barber said. He plans to conduct another study to determine whether there's an association between cannabis and stroke independent of tobacco use." Tobacco is already HEAVILY connected to stroke, but he publishes results before ruling out tobacco. Furthermore he claims 2.3 times as likely. Well fuck me if that isn't remarkably close to the 2x already measured in determining a tobacco smoker's chances of stroke: [link to www.eurekalert.org] [link to www.idph.state.il.us] [link to www.cdc.gov] If anything this study merely proves we should be vaporizing weed not smoking it. |
