Tornado in Belgium today!!!

Storm damage in West and East Flanders between 05.00 and 06.00 local time this morning, apparently caused by small tornadoes on the passing trough line. No injuries reported. Oosterzele: severe damage to several house roofs, football ground canteen demolished. Meulebeke: garage, carport and greenhouse destroyed, roof tiles blown off. Roof tiles ripped off and trees blown down in several other places. Damage by lightning strikes in Oostrozebeke and Roeselare.

300meters? That's not a tornado, Luisport, that's just a titty twister. Our tornados are a mile wide, sometimes, and take out everything for 10-30 miles.

A mini-tornado hit early Tuesday morning several communes of Flanders in the north of Belgium, causing damage to homes but who are not injured, according to local authorities.

Tiles torn, crumpled metal, broken windows ... Damage due to the passage of a mini tornado in northern Belgium are considerable. In half an hour between 5:12 ET 5:39, firefighters Roeselare, the main town of the region, have received sixty calls.

A Meulebeke, one of the most affected municipalities, ten houses were damaged. Roofs and greenhouses were swept away by the wind, while the walls, windows and shutters have not withstood the shock, according to the Belgian agency.

A little further, to Oosterzele, the bar of a football club was completely devastated and thirty houses damaged. A Ardooie, an electricity pylon collapsed onto a road and Oostrozebeke, lightning caused a fire in a house.

Seems like those are all a result of an active "Western Express" bringing hot and humid air deep into Russian territory. We had a thunderstorm day before yesterday and right now it looks like we're going to have another one. With either heavy rain, or wet snow. Weather, I love you

Some of our tornados are a full mile wide but very few of them are that huge. Occassionally they do track 30 or more miles. But not generally.

A "small" tornado, such as occurred in Belgium, can still be quite destructive and traumatic to those who experience it -- perhaps more traumatic, because they are not accustomed to such things.

Native Oklahoman here, and I have learned to never "minimize" anything about any tornado. Ever, anywhere.

yes it's very traumatic because we are not used to it... we don't recognize possible signs and there are no warnings!

March 2012...Kentucky... 1 mile wide... 90 mile path... wiped out a city... and thousands of homes before it died

Ooh ooh ooh, can we have it?! Maybe that an event will finally lead Russia into opening up all those goodies in form of Doppler and maybe even instating a civilian Skywarn facility? Plus it would be so awesome to see and chase something more then some Greenage (like here [link to imageshack.us] ) or an occasional EF1-EF2 twister. We get plenty of shelf and roll clouds though!

The one that came by me about a year ago was one mile wide and was reported to be two miles wide in places. Some say there were two tornados together. It scared the begoodness out of me and it was 3/4 mile away. If you can imagine being awakened at midnight and the sound went from totally quiet to the sound of a freight train passing by you at 70mph. It did have enough power at it's edge to knock over a couple of trees on my place. Google Denning Arkansas tornado.

Oh, one thing I definitely learned from this, is that if you live in a mobile home and you're about to get hit by a tornado, get in your freaking car and buckle up. Drive away if you can, but you're better off in your car than in a mobile home. It's better to be spun on your head in a car than lifted in a mobile home and dumped from the sky.
