Most all sites ignore your Do Not Track
flags and wishes.
Some of those clean up programs are
false flag programs created and
monitored by govt agencies.
They feel like why would you need
a program like that if you're doing
nothing wrong.
So they watch them.

Anyone??? For a Mac??

My computer has gotten very slow, I'd love to get these files removed, and I'm not tech savvy at all.

Thanks to anyone who knows something about macs, and Apple products.

This is good info if you don't want to be tracked by your everyday ad, data mining, hacking folks.

You might also note that you can manually add these sites to your host file (windoze) and direct them back to your local machine if you don't want to use script blocking software.

As for government or google (same) tracking
see - Google Hires DARPA Head Regina Dugan

if you are plugged into the internet, have a cell phone, use electricity, pay taxes, have a bank account, etc... being tracked is unavoidable.

if you are unplugged from all the above you are tracked by process of elimination.

you will be safer to just know and understand, you are being tracked regardless.

I downloaded Index dat viewer, I had over 5000 tracking stuff on my pc. I didn't know how to take it all off, but I ran Ccleaner program and noticed it deletes index.dat files and cookies as well. It is free too. Thanks for the info.

There's a little icon in the upper right hand of your browser that when you click on it it gives the active website you are on, right now, a rating and tells you how many trackers are on that site actively trying to enter your PC.

If you haven't switched over to Firefox yet, you may want to start thinking about it.

I don't know why anybody would even want to use a browser that is not only know to be tracking them live, but also stores those files in your computer, hides them and then locks them so that they can't be deleted by the average user.

Re: This week, I'm going to show you how to find out if you are being actively tracked online and how to block it permanently.
So last week I started this thread discussing the hidden locked files on your PC called index.dat files and how to erase them for good.

Thread: If you think that erasing your internet files with a program protects you...think again.

This week, I'm going to show you how to not only find out if you are being tracked, and which companies/websites are tracking you, but also how to block them for good.

First, to see if you are actually being tracked. (you are) We will go back to that other thread and download one of the index.dat viewers, specifically Index.dat viewer 3.

You can download it for free from here.

[link to www.softpedia.com]

Once you get that installed, open it and it will automatically list every site that you have clicked on (and some that you haven't). If you followed my other thread and didn't erase them already, naughty naughty.

But regardless, you will still have a few from current internet activity. What you need to do is go through that list and start picking out sites names that you know you haven't clicked on.

One example may be imrworldwide.com. They are a known tracking site and sell your records to anybody who will pay for them. They also target you and do so without your permission. If you;re ok with that, this thread isn't for you.

That's just one example but there may be more. If you don't recognize the url that the index.dat viewer displays, do a Google search on it. Chances are it has been discussed in length at various online forums.

With a Mac you also need to get rid of the Flash cookies. Go to Finder Menu>Go>Library (hold option key down if library isn't there)>Preferences>macromedia>flash player. Look in the folders and see what's there. Amazing.

Disable Fraud and Malware Protection in Preferences/Advanced/Security (otherwise Opera software knows every site you visit)

Configure your search engines so your search queries aren't redirected through Opera Software.

Install the Ghostery add-on but disallow it sending statistics.

That's about it really, Opera software can't track you, websites can't track you and Ghostery can't track you.

But your ISP and DNS servers can still track your every moves of course.
