Forgot to mention, the Eraser ran about one third and froze, three times. Uninstalling that is how I found the other garbage that arrived at the same time.

Re: This week, I'm going to show you how to find out if you are being actively tracked online and how to block it permanently.
I downloaded the datviewer and the Eraser for Firefox.

My advice? DON'T DO IT!

I'm using IE (first time on this pc) to post this because Firefox is disabled and I'm trying to figure out how to retreive and save my bookmarks before I completely uninstall FF and start over. FF will not open.

I got loaded up with stuff I didn't ask for, like THE VAULT online storage, Coupon Companion, and DJMIX toolbar. I uninstalled these but the DJ toolbar is still in IE. Still need to look for anything else I got for free.

I broke one of my cardinal rules by downloading this stuff, so I'll blame myself.

I have no idea yet how bad this is going to be. Losing the bookmarks is bad enough. After the virus scan completes, I'll see how bad it is.

to the one mentioning his firefox is blocked/erased and he/she now has to use IE:
you did something wrong!
maybe erased one thing too much?
- if you don´t have a "restore" option, install firefox again.
i know it is convenient to have your passwords eg automatically stored and inserted when you visit certain pages, but i would never do so.
- if you have set a date for system recovery (recommended!), just recover your system.
it´s really not rocket science ;)

i am using the tools as advised by OP, and it does work.

for all those paranoid about being followed by glp:
it is only 4 sites following when you´re on here.
that is - from my experience - less than when you read your online newspaper.

it is google+, facebook, twitter and Quantcast

Re: This week, I'm going to show you how to find out if you are being actively tracked online and how to block it permanently.
So last week I started this thread discussing the hidden locked files on your PC called index.dat files and how to erase them for good.

Thread: If you think that erasing your internet files with a program protects you...think again.

This week, I'm going to show you how to not only find out if you are being tracked, and which companies/websites are tracking you, but also how to block them for good.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33746114

In fact, I started a thread a few months ago about this very problem. I don't remember what title I wrote but it was something like "how you are being traced" or something of the sort. I explained how most of the information transmitted to your browser was not the information you intended to have, but was data sent by tracking and marketing companies, and how block selected sited in Google Chrome.

I downloaded all you recommended and I must say
it works great, one thing caught me by surprise, after
I deleted I found I lost all my passwords "Firefox",
so if you want to save your passwords be sure to go
into Eraser settings and take out the checkmark.
Also after installing Eraser Pro it keeps searching
for folder to install strongvault, which it never does,I haven't figured that out yet, just hit cancel on strongvault
and program will open.
