old news

btw Ccleaner has an option to clear index.dat

it's been on windows since win 2000
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33186992

I use Ccleaner - it's a good, free program to have onboard
 Quoting: Geo777

It's there but it will not delete index.dat,
try it ,then look at index viewer, they are still there,Tracks eraser is the way to go
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27936953

Tried tracks eraser..it does not remove indext.dat

I installed index.dat viewer and ran it again after using TEpro..all those files are still there.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33743617

Try index.dat analyzer. Free by the way.

[link to download.cnet.com]

Click the small icon in the upper right to find and list them and then click the larger button right next to it for deleting them.

By the way Tracks eraser does, in fact, work.

Try running it again after it's finished.

Click test now first, then erase now. Then do it again.

I can't speak for Startpage but Ghostery does work extremely well. I definitely like the feature that shows you what is being blocked as it's being blocked from site to site.

Did you lock down your Flash and webcam/mic too?

Index.dat files gotta go as well.

Here are my other tutorials on how to do that.

ff + ghostery is a great semi-solution for winbloze

but there are still many, many issues with that operating system.

greetings my UK friend.

to put it simply, windows is closed source software which means no one knows (presumably) what that operating system is doing with your data unless they decide to disclose (or lie) about it.

linux on the other hand, is open source which means ALL source code is in the public domain and vetted by qualified programmers. if there was even something resembling software that violated privacy or "phoned home" it would be exposed, outed and communicated to the entire community (it actually probably wouldnt even make it past the first layer of approvers for software packages)

I have been following your threads and implementing the changes you suggested. All was well and I was jumping up and down because my computer was just like new.

Yesterday I'm not sure what happened. I looked at my start menu and my cam was right back at the top. The reason I looked is because my computer was doing what it was before I blocked the cam. Running slow, hesitating between windows etc..

I checked my security history and nonstop it says, "Unauthorized access blocked".

IP address has disappeared from adapter is frequent on the same list as well as protecting your connection to a newly detected network.

Do you have any suggestions?

I am pretty hot (lol) but this is crazy and the slow computer is driving me mad. I think it's slower now than it was before.

I think Ghostery works the best but , for me, it causes youtube\flash streaming vids to pause for a half second every few minutes. just the video the audio doesnt skip or pause. It's not a big deal but it's annoying. i don't have this problem with DNT+. if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this let me know. I've whitelisted the youtube domain. it may have to do with other tabs I have open I'm not sure if I tried by closing all other tabs but that isn't a functional work around anyway.

Quran 8:12- Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): "I am with you:
give firmness to the Believers: I will instill terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers:
smite them above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith - 7.88: The Prophet wrote the (marriage contract) with 'Aisha while she was six years old and consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years old and she remained with him for nine years (i.e. till his death).
