Bullshit.
And the LORD spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.

Somebody has to pay off all those Socialist taxes. It adds up, the retailer, the truck drivers, the warehouse owners, the farmers, etc., also have to pay for all that health care and taxes for their employees.

Of course the prices are passed on to you.

Re: Just left the grocery store where they are talking about the price of milk going up alonge with meat and bacon doom!
It's easy to deal with these prices. Don't pay them! I see Bacon in the stores, some want $7, others $6, with an average of $5.79 per pack. If you wait and don't buy it, what do you think the store does? They LOWER the price to $4 or $3.

I am buying cakes that retail for $7.50 for $2.98, no one is buying at the high prices and there are stacks and stacks of locally made cakes on tables in the front entrance of the store.

These are retail "asking" prices, we don't have to pay them! Coffee also, why pay that price? Let it sit on the shelf and it will be reduced from $8 or $9 to $4.

Also, stop shopping at stores where the prices are high in the first place. Simply don't pay it!

Re: Just left the grocery store where they are talking about the price of milk going up alonge with meat and bacon doom!
It is a world wide issue to say the least.

7 reasons why the milk price will increase in 2012/13

1. The drought and stifling heat currently hitting the Mid-West of the US is forecast to continue into October. This has major consequences for the global dairy industry:

• US dairy cow production is down

• The likelihood of a reduced 2013/14 grain harvest will put further pressure on the US dairy industry’s ability to feed itself

• A reduction in US production and exports of soya beans and corn will affect the Chinese dairy industry (and others), which relies heavily on these crops to feed its cows

2. The profitability of the US dairy industry, which has a big influence on the dairy supply outlook, is at its lowest for years. The milk to feed price ratio has fallen to 1.24 – which means the industry is contracting and 80% of the milk cheque is being spent on feeding cows. Normally, the ratio would need to be above 2.5 for industry growth.

Working a grocery store use to be a good job, when the unions were in. I started as a deli clerk for $7.45 an hour in 1977. my daughter starts at the same job this week end for $8.00 an hour.
With wages going in the dumpster for 30 years I wonder how we have all made it!

Cheap Bastards.
 Quoting: Kybeam 27604421

With inflation, what you made in 1977 would be $28 and hour today. That is insane wages for a clerk to make. I think the unions, while helping some, were the downfall of many companies. Who could afford those wages these days? No one.

Here is a link to an inflation calculator:

Still know people in the grocery industry. Here is an example of where the money went. The grand son of a well know local chain built an estate house on a golf course 25 years ago before he was 25 years old. Easy million dollar home. The founder, his grandfather lived next door to a rail road switch men. Money was being fed more evenly to Americans then. Sucks, I miss June and Ward.

When you go shopping at your large food store.. Do you mostly by items in the refrigerator or freezer section?
Learn to shop in the canned good and perishable section.
Forget about all the pre-made micro-wave dinners. For beginners start with soup, rice, egg noodles, canned chicken and bread crumbs. look up old tried and true recipes from the past and learn how to cook!

Meat, chicken, fish, all reasonable at HEB and Kroger's in Houston.

It was buying coffee last week that rocked me. It had almost doubled in price. Agggghh!
I hadn't really looked at the price in a while. We're going to buy it anyway and so didn't pay attention.

Beef cows at the lowest level since 1962. There are many more people to feed now, than there were in 1962. When hay goes up to 10 a bale, from 2.50-4.00, or from 20 a round bale to 70, it's probably nearing the point of raising them at a loss.

February 4, 2013
Where Have All the Beef Cows Gone?

Cattle numbers are down again, to their lowest level since 1952, according to USDA's recent inventory count. Beef cow numbers are at their lowest level since 1962 as the devastating impacts of the 2012 drought continues the longer-term decline. Beef cow numbers were down three percent in 2012 and 11 percent since 2007. The drivers have been high feed and forage prices, persistent drought in the Southern Plains, and of course the widespread Midwestern drought of 2012.

Homogenized, pasturized milk, which is no milk at all, but white liquid, is not good for you. Real milk is very good for you.

It has nothing to do with pasturized or raw, casein is bad for humans. Goat milk/cheese is less harmful but still not very healthy.
The only good dairy product is butter and even better ghee (butter without the milk proteins)

we have been paying cheap, government (our tax money) subsidized prices for food for 80+ years. The price to bring food from farm to table is much higher than we have been paying.

The answer, the whole farming philosophy has to change, to LOCAL and PERMACULTURE or a variant of such. These corporate mega farms practicing monoculture are as big a problem as government involvement.

LOCAL, PERMACULTURE, DESUBSIDIZING, and DEREGULATION, those are the answers...to just about everything.
