we have been paying cheap, government (our tax money) subsidized prices for food for 80+ years. The price to bring food from farm to table is much higher than we have been paying.

The answer, the whole farming philosophy has to change, to LOCAL and PERMACULTURE or a variant of such. These corporate mega farms practicing monoculture are as big a problem as government involvement.

LOCAL, PERMACULTURE, DESUBSIDIZING, and DEREGULATION, those are the answers...to just about everything.

I undrstand where you are comming from but remember, about 80 percent of the last farm bill was dedicated to nutrition programs and have nothing to do with agriculture.

Crop insurance is another issue.

we also went thru a long period(actually very short relatively speaking) where people left the land to work for someone else to acquire all the material things the industrial, then technological revolution brought us. We will have to go back to at least smaller family farms, more of them, and more people providing some for themselves, just like humanity has done for about 99.999% of its existance. WE definitely benefited from mass farming as in the ability to produce mass amounts of food for much less labor, and provide time for creative endeavors that brought us the "things" we love, but more labor is going to have to go back into farming again to balance things out. AND we need to go into space. If humans don't have frontiers to conquer, we go more batshit crazy than normal.

Another useless eater deceived by the meat and dairy boards with the tired argument about vegetarians and their insufficient protein ingestion. I`ve been a vegetarian for 25 years and i probably have considerably more muscle mass than you, hoss, lol! excess protein intake in elevated levels of 30% are detrimental to our everall health.

If you're vegan, you're short critical aminos, amigo.

I was a vegetarian for 14 years. I know what it takes. Most vegetarians are weak, brain-tissue-short skeletons.

I noticed that as well with vegans and even vegetarians. Gwyneth Paltrow was a vegan and then got brittle bone disease. She is not vegan anymore and even posts meat recipes on her former all vegan website. She had money and the know how to do the vegan lifestyle 'right'. But it didn't work and really hurt her. The woman finally got smart and started eating normally again.

ive been a vegan since age 10...im 35 now...my numbers are puurfect... you must have not done your research. there's no shame in admitting defeat, sir, you just couldn`t handle the passion, dedication and intelligence necessary to commit to such a rewarding endeavor, lol. You should give it another try. Come back to our fold.

The messed up thing is milk isn't even healthy for you, long term consumption of milk and dairy products has been proven to be a health hazard yet still there is the common universal belief that milk is good for the body, the only good thing about it is the calcium which can easily be taken from other foods.

Bullshit.

Yup. My mom is in her 80's and has been drinking milk her whole life. Her doctor says she has very strong bones. She is also a meat eater. The woman can do circles around me.LOL

GREEN LEAFY VEGETABLES DONT HAVE PROTEIN, HUH DIPSHIT?

BECAUSE REINDEER EAT STEAK AND EGGS AND HAVE NO MUSCLES

YOU WERE PROBABLY HOMESCHOOLED
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6423654

Reindeer are ruminants, their digestive systems are meant to process nutrients from vegetable matter WAY more efficiently than non ruminants ie carnivores or omnivores, who evolved to pull some vital nutrients from the stored muscles of ruminant herbivores.

I am sure since you WEREN'T homeschooled. you have never ever heard those terms before let alone the science/biology behind them.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1245622

True. People will say that about cows as well. That they are big and only eat grass. I had cows and yes they grazed but there were also a lot of huge beetles and tons of ants in the pasture which they ate as well. So they were getting animal protein albeit from bugs which have a very high amount of protein in them. All grazing animals somehow ingest other living creatures. Gorillas are the same way. They ingest tons of insects. They love termites.

My family has been discussing getting some pigs for our boys to raise here on our farm. Looks like your thread here is giving us that push we needed to make a decision. Thanks!

Just be sure that you have TOP-NOTCH fences!! We raised pigs for a few years, and they could find ANY weakness in any of the fencing. They can't jump, but they can tunnel and root underneath. And YOU will try to find the "escape" spot and won't be able to, but once you've rounded up your escaped binkers they will once again find the spot almost instantly!

If you have enough room to raise several, you might be able to do what we did. We found 5 friends who wanted their own pork, plus we got an extra wiener pig for us. I kept all of the feed receipts, and divided it 5 ways (i.e., our pig was the payment for feeding and taking care of all of the other pigs). Of course They'd re-imburse us for the mobile butcher, (and we'd get a discount for having multiple pigs) who then would take the meat to the processor. Within a couple of weeks they would have bacon, sausage, roasts, chops, etc. all wrapped, marked and frozen. It actually worked out to be cheaper than if they'd bought the same meat at the store. And, in my opinion, they were raised far more healthily and humanely than commercial pork.

Prices arent going up. We are in a booming economic recovery now. Prices will start to go down soon. Jobs, wages going up, and prices going down. Times are looking great! Its a great time to be alive!

America will eventually reap every whit of what it has sewn in the earth. Most people are ignorant of the genocide and they think that America fights for justice and freedom. That is not the case.

The chickens really are come home to roost. But unfortunately for you they will be priced beyond your reach.
