Facebook Fad Fading Fast!!!
Most Facebook Users Have Taken a Break From the Site, Survey Finds
By JENNA WORTHAM
February 5, 2013, 12:00 pm

Facebook is the most popular social network in America — roughly two-thirds of adults in the country use it on a regular basis.

But that doesn’t mean they don’t get sick of it.

A new survey by the Pew Research Center‘s Internet and American Life Project, conducted in December, found that 61 percent of current Facebook users admitted that they had voluntarily taken breaks from the site, for as many as several weeks at a time.

The main reasons for their social media sabbaticals were not having enough time to dedicate to pruning their profiles, an overall decrease in their interest in the site, and the general sentiment that Facebook was a major waste of time...

while more than half said that the site was just as important to them as it was a year ago, only 12 percent said the site’s significance increased over the last year — indicating the makings of a much larger social media burnout across the site.

The survey teases out other interesting insights, including the finding that young users are spending less time overall on the site. The report found that 42 percent of Facebook users from the ages of 18 to 29 said that the average time they spent on the site in a typical day had decreased in the last year. A much smaller portion, 23 percent, of older Facebook users, those over 50, reported a drop in Facebook usage over the same period...

Pew: Majority of Facebook users take"vacation" from the social network
February 5, 2013, 4:12 PM

Are you tired of Facebook? You might not be the only one. The social network may have over a billion monthly active users, but according to a new study more than half of them have taken a break for several weeks at a time.

Too much drama, boredom and scads of irrelevant information are just some of the reasons Facebook users give for taking a break from the world's biggest social networking site for weeks at a time...

69 percent said they plan to spend the same amount of time on Facebook in the coming year. Twenty-seven percent plan to spend less time on the site and 3 percent, more time.

Responding to the report, Facebook said that its growth and user engagement remains strong...

I think I am going to invite them all over here, it would drive ya crazy. My family would, all of them cousins and nieces and nephews, I have hundreds. Boy we would have a high old time.

I won't do it to you, you would think it was a conspiracy and you would be right. We would plan to drive you crazy with the things we know and would tell, you would not believe it!

Re: Facebook Fad Fading Fast!!!
yeah i spend way more time here too. i find it wholly depressing, people talking about dreary, pointless shit on tv, or the latest, easy-to-digest MSM meme - gay marriage

i only have people i actually know on there, and have no personal info. for me, it IS a social thing, chit-chatting to people i cant see very often

but man, they are sheep. ive given up posting anything interesting. well, a handful are on the same page as me, but essentially we are preaching to the converted

just think how much use the likes of fb COULD be for sharing knowledge and ideas. shame there isnt a fb for the likes of us. hence we are here

still, i will be posting this little nugget! cheers OP!

To facebook, you kinda are the product. think about all you've posted there over however many years. Quite enough to build up a very accurate profile of you IRL. Facebook cares about you so much for the same reasons Tesco does.

The only people who still use Facebook are those who joined relatively recently and haven't seen all the changes since 2004. Those of us who have seen all the changes can see that it has a striking resemblance to MySpace and we know what happened to that. They should change the name from Facebook to "Silly Pictures With Text" or "Clutter and Garbage". Facebook has become less and less social with every passing day since the beginning.
