I remember reading someplace that we now know as modern medicine was initially funded by the Rockefellers. There used a variety of rivalling schools of thought on medicine such as Natural Hygiene for instance, but the Rockefellers funded university programs promoting the now established consenus on medical issues. Curiously enough, they were also the ones manufacturing the drugs. Or at least it was something like that.
