IL Gov. Pat Quinn to seek minimum-wage hike to $10 an hour | |
| Delbert_Boogerbelt (OP) Shittin & Gettin User ID: 5453499 02/06/2013 07:47 AM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 88% of Illinois independent business owners say "no" to minimum wage hike "A recent study by the NFIB Research Foundation showed if Illinois raised the minimum wage to $10.65 and tied it to the CPI it would wipe out 21,000 jobs and reduce the state's economic output by roughly $4.5 million," Maisch said. "Sixty-seven percent of the jobs lost would be from the small-business sector. "Small-business owners don't need politicians telling them how to run their businesses," she said. "If they really want to help the economy, legislators will simply get out of the way and let small-business owners run their own shops . Artificial wage hikes that may not reflect the current marketplace do little except cause employers to cut hours and jobs." [link to illinoisreview.typepad.com] |

Quoting: Delbert_Boogerbelt So what's the solution? People need an adequate minimum to live on. In the beginning was the Word. And the Word was with God. And the Word Was God. This means more layoffs and even some closures. Add in all the cost increases to make up for the higher cost of labor and IL will continue to sink into the shit abyss. The solution? Let free market be free. |

More small business owners need to try this. My guy earns WAY more than min wage to work a counter sales job but he is paid what he's worth and no more. It's the only fair way to do it in my business (jewelry). Plus, he pays his own taxes so it's easier for me. It's like Ocommie running around shucking and jiving for gun control when the economy is imploding. The 67% state income tax in Illinois last year did more to hurt working people than any min wage increase can off-set. This POS is just another dumbocrat talking out of both sides of his mouth while running the state into the ground. I'm sorry, but wages are pegged pretty much based on skill and talent. Do you want fries with that is not a skill or talent and pay is set accordingly. We used to have a solid manufacturing sector that enabled low-talent types to earn a decent living because it was repetitive drone like work that paid relatively well. Thanks to unions, that is over. There really is no way for unskilled, untalented types to earn a decent living anymore. |
