Post Office to End Saturday Delivery Starting August 1

Maybe they should cut the salary of the postmaster general - the highest paid person in the executive branch.

Some packages (such as medicine) will be delivered on Saturdays.

simple solution, if you want mail get a PO Box. Stop automatic delivery to every single address in the world. What a waste of resources. Pick up your mail once or twice a week at your local PO.

The post office makes money, when congress mandated in 2006 that the post office had to pre-fund healthcare for every employee for 75 years in to the future, including putting money away for people yet unborn and that the post office only had 10 years to put 75 years of funding away at a cost of $5.5 billion a year, congress had a goal. Congress knows the post office makes money so they are trying to break them and federalize the post office so they can use the money and TAX you to run the post office.

the reality of the mandate also does not take in to account technology and assumes postal employee number will increase at an ever rising rate, the post office is fighting back and something like 5 out of 9 jobs are going to be cut so they can re-do the retirement numbers.

One more time, congress wants to take over the postal service & spend the money the postal service makes and Tax you at the same time to run the postal service and still make you buy stamps to mail things. Congress sees dollar signs and a huge money pool they can squander.

The best way to cut jobs (which they should do) is to go to 3 day delivery. There will be A routes and B routes.

A routes are delivered Monday, Wednesday, Friday.
B routes are delivered Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.

Each employee works all six days.

Just cut delivery to everybody like another poster mentioned. Have PO boxes for everybody.

1. Centralize mail for easy distribution.
2. You will still need people to manage, sort etc.
3. No more fucktards blocking the roads with delivery
4. Keep mail secure in one location

This will also allow the government to:
1. Get your biometric readings when you go to the post office
2. Force you to validate identity
3. Easier to keep tabs on you
4. Easier to keep tabs on you

I really don't see a need for daily mail anymore. All I ever get is bills and junk like credit card offers and coupons that I throw away anyway.

If I want to contact someone there are much better ways to do it than sending something through the mail.

I'm surprised they aren't still using horses. The technology is outdated and not needed.

If I order something online usually the postal service is the slowest and most expensive.

My mail carrier is a super nice guy and I don't want to see any of them lose a job but it appears to be in the cards.

Cant blame them. They are trying to balance things. Between the a huge percentage being unemployed ( that cant pay any bills) mixed with the ones that pay online, NO one writes anymore. They are hurting.......capish?

I'm in Canada and our post office delivers 5 days a week for I don't know how long now.

Still don't see a need for more than once a week though. People would adapt to once a week.

I think the post office is a huge DRAIN on spending.

Cut it to once a week. Done!

I hate to say it, but there really isn't much need for the post office. Unless it's small enough to throw like a frisbee, it's cheaper to FedEx.

If the postal service successfully funds the congressional mandate and survivse the next three years they will be in one heck of a good position.

Congress does not expect them to survive though; we might even see congress get involved in this reduction of service with the end goal in mind.

It's gonna suck on a Holiday. That would be three days without mail! ugh

Pay your bills online or mail them early. Banks will have a field day with late fees. I already suspect some payments are marked late that actually make it in time. This is just one more chance for them.

Good move on the post office. the next big step would be to force retirement on all of those baby boomers raking in the huge hourly rates and hire in half the amount of younger people to fill in the void at a lesser but still respectable hourly wage.

Times change and yes we will soon have central mailboxes.

I for one support what you said in FULL. The mail delivery person in my neighborhood is a black and she is HORRIBLE! Our mail ends up down the street half the time. We get other neighbors mail all the time too. You would think they are paying this lazy joke 8 dollars an hour. It makes me fucking sick to know that they start these worthless fuckers at 15.00 or better depending on the route.
