Gee THANKS, Uncle Sam - Military Salaries Limited to 1% Increase in 2014
Article:

[link to security.blogs.cnn.com]

FROM THE ARTICLE (per GLP policy):

Just days before he leaves office, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is recommending military pay be limited, effectively decreasing troop salary next year.

Panetta will recommend to Congress that military salaries be limited to a one percent increase in 2014. The Pentagon has calculated that the 2014 Employment Cost Index (ECI) from the Labor Department is expected to be above one percent, but wants to still cut back on pay due to “budget uncertainties,” one department official told CNN.

So...screw inflation and screw the ever-increasing demands of a military career.

Uncle Sam says "FUCK YOURSELF".

That's terrible!

You risk your lives for us and this is the Appreciation you get?

Possibly plan is to reduce the armed forces to keep us defenseless?

The military could get a huge increase if the goverment cut back on their lazy workers who bring pillows to work and spend all day playing games.

They're not risking their lives from anyone you blind turd. They go around causing havoc, they don't deserve an increase. In fact, they deserve a pay cut for causing so much hell in this earth.

By all means, let's spend more money on the war machine.

Where's that roll eye's thing at?

And OP, I seriously doubt that only a 1 percent pay increase in 2014 is going to affect recruiting. Most of the people joining the military, as has always been, are people who can't find a decent job in the private sector for whatever reason or they join for the VA benefits. They're called cannon fodder.

When will we ever learn?

Let's put this in perspective:

An Army Staff Seargent (E6) starts at approximately $26k. So...there's a whopping $260 fucking dollars per annum raise he can look forward to in 2014 to cover the unpredictable (but you know it's going to be more than 1%) inflation.

It's like getting paid LESS in 2014 than he's getting paid now.

They do a job. They should be paid for it. If their raise can't keep up with inflation, then they ARE being paid less. It's not fair.

Hey--I agree that the US military is involved in WAY too much bullshit. Blame the Pentagon but leave the "grunts" out of it. They actually do work long and hard, ya know.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 475310

Overall military spending can be reduced while still giving the troops a livable fucking raise. Cut out these major military operations all over the goddamn world for one thing.

But an honest day's work should get an honest day's pay. That's the bottom line.

Re: Gee THANKS, Uncle Sam - Military Salaries Limited to 1% Increase in 2014
good, we don't want you to go around blowin sh-t up so corporations can steal the reserves/minerals anyway.
the wars have to end. in 2001 the day before 9 1 1 rumsfeld stepped up to the mic and said we can't find 2.3 trillion in the pentagon budget.
I would have cut thier budget in half right then and there.
and told them if they don't find it, i'll cut it in half again.
don't get me wrong, i respect every american who wants to stand up and protect his country, but we are not protecting our country, we have been running around the world setting up a new world order at the taxpayers expense.
if everyone was created equal, and the resources shared, and things like free energy put out into the population, we wouldn't have to fight anyone, everyone would work together for their own benefit as well as others.
but nooooooooooo we have to have a ruling class of sick selfish people, that is who the military serves.

Well that makes sense.. The human component of the military is the cheapest and easiest to replace part of the overall equipment list!

I wouldn't be surprised if their helmets were worth more than they were!

Well, they WILL have to suck it up no doubt.
You mentioned some of the "benefits" of a military career but do you also know that these aren't 8-hour a day jobs we're talking about? It's rough shit. Plus you gotta think about deployment. This "room &board" you're talking about ain't the Hilton and the food's not exactly 4 star.
