You do realize if you read a book, teaching you how to do something, you are being taught by a teacher right?

If not for teachers, you wouldn't even know how to fucking read.

If we could not think for ourselves then there would be no point in reading the book in the first place.

For example, einstein wrote a paper in 1905 entitled "on the elctrodynamics of moving bodies", a pure work of genius where he drew on the work of others. But if people didnt know how to think for themselves then quantum mechanics would never have been born.

Thinking has nothig to do with reading, thinking is a natural mechanism, we learn for ourselves not through what we read but by how we interperet what we read.

You and I will read a book but will reach completely different conclusions on where to take the next step.

Hmmm...a brain takes a little while to mature to the point where it is able to think abstractly and to solve complex problems. It certainly makes sense to teach the young child to read, write, and do math. Once the basics are learned, a person can continue his education if he has the willpower. History books are filled with brilliant men from years gone by who taught themselves.

But, 99% of the people are to lazy to bother. Let's face it, if we were so worried about being smart, we would be reading rather than watching reality TV and playing video games.

Playing video games is far better than staring into the idiot box. Go do your research before speaking ignorance.

It may be more exciting for you and its healthy to have excitement in ones life. But high excitement is generally followed by serious disappointment. The two are intertwinned. What maybe exciting for you may be disappointing for others, much like watching a film.

What happens when you habe finished your game and lost interest, and there is electricity is "too scarce" to run your game. What then, will you be very upset about it? Bordering on getting physically angry?

I wont, because I habe not let myself get to that level of addicton. Gaming is like a drug, just because it is legal certainly does not make it a health occupation.

Small doses is fine but there are many people who get emotional withdrawl symptoms when they do not play for long periods, say a month or so. Especially children. They get seriously bored and litterally do not know how to keep thier minds entertained, this leads to serious short term emotional issues that could in theory become violent.

I have always been a world news freak. Come from a love of history, current history being, to me, the most interesting. The original "Puzzle Palace" book sparked my quest to look deeper. Talk radio and particular Chuck Harder taught me a lot. Then I listened to a mid-night African American radio show and they were reading from "Behold a Pale Horse" by William Cooper. Bought his book and a little later a short wave receiver to hear "The Hour of the Time" and I've been exploring ever sense.

Do I believe it all? No. It's the current views, all of them, no victor has canned the present into a "history" yet. it's still up to interpretation, it's still alive.
