Pussed out climbing onto roof with extension ladder... : (
I had to instantly return it for an A-Frame ladder. Now I feel much more stable.

How the fuck do you descend extension ladders from roof without feeling like you are gonna fall.

House is a rancher btw.

How the hell do you get back on an A frame from the roof and think it's more stable than an extension?

You won't fall off the ladder if you eat a bowl of Lucky Charms cereal. Lucky Charms also cured the gangrene in my leg and cured my chronic diarrhea.

I just couldn't bring myself to throw my leg over and crawl onto roof.

At least with A Frame you can scoot your butt on there.

You can get a U-shaped attachment that bolts on the top of the extension ladder and that rests on the roof surface.
It's much safer that way! It keeps the ladder from sliding sideways.

Re: Pussed out climbing onto roof with extension ladder... : (
Not really understanding the issue about the extension ladder. I'm a 68 y o grandma. Last year I agreed with my kids to stop climbing the ladder to the roof of the two-story apartment building I own. In turn, they are cleaning the gutters for me.

However, I continue to climb the ladder of my one story home to sweep off pine needles and clean gutters.

Those A-frames are dangerous to use getting on and off the roof.

Try the extension ladder again. It's stable and not going anywhere. Good luck next time.

yeah, extensions can be scary, don't look down, make sure your on stable ground, you can kick them away accidentally when you make that last step onto the roof, so be careful with that last bit. Funny how quick vertigo gets to you.

Think I'll give it another shot.

Ladder extended 16 feet, maybe I need longer one.

How you get down, mmm I think you just have to turn around back to ladder, crouch a bit, and put that first foot on the top step, I didn't know you could get an attachment that hooks them to the roof, but without that, it can get a bit scary.

Maybe if you are having such a problem with a ladder, you might want to re think even being on the roof in the first place.....???

Actually I believe that is worse to do that on a a frame. so easy to tip those over vs a extension that is on solid ground and leaning up against a solid object.

I am a window cleaner btw and had many a frames want to tip over.

sounds like ladder is too short, so's mine, can't be bothered buying a longer one, they're too hard to get home anyway, unless they deliver.

go backwards that's how I do it. just feel with our first foot and catch a rung, then it's the reverse of climbing. one step at a time.

Don't set your extension ladder on a hard surface like a driveway. My uncle had his ladder slide out away from the house and broke his heel. He never walked right after that.
Have someone hold it steady if possible.

I agree I don't feel comfortable on a-frames even at 8 feet. It always feels like they're swaying underneath me.
